So I got reviewed by the office of bankruptcy today

This doesn't happen often, I got a letter and called in to do an interview to have my bankruptcy reviewed.

They didn't say way.

I figured it was rev can or amex or some other creditor crying...nope.

apparently the gov't office overseeing bankruptcy here in canada when going over all bankruptcies filed by trustees they do on occasion review some. They take some at random and some because something stuck out.

I asked him why me - he said something stuck out - way out. I asked what. He said in 15 years of reviewing cases here - mine was the largest claim against Amex he had ever scene.

I'm not sure if I should be happy or ashamed about that.....

the interview seemed to go. He understood what happened and that i'm moving on

;)

I wish I could just wipe away all my debts and not pay them too....

Oh well, maybe i'd rather have a credit rating and a bank that will loan me money any time I want some.

dyna mo 02-17-2010 09:23 AM

after all the bank bailout bullshit, i am moving away from credit.

fuck the banks

Once you make mistakes on your credit, they are hard to remove. Some people would rather wipe the slate (mostly) clean and wait the few years it takes to be able to get loans and shit again. But maybe them people should stay away from loans, seeing as how they bankrupted in the first place.

This is interesting. I've never been to bankruptcy court myself. But, I learned about bankrupcy in a Finance course. The creditors have to be paid in the order of their importance. I think the government would be somewhere in the priority of being paid. Then, the customers, people who loaned you money, other companies, banks, etc.

If you have a corporation, then it has unlimited liability, which means that you are not responsible for paying anything personally if the corporation goes bankrupt.

I guess some amounts of money can be forgiven by the goverment if the company goes bankrupt.

From you avatar, I see that you have no shirt. I am guessing you might have sold your shirt to pay for you bankruptcy costs.

bankrupsy

Les Grossman 02-17-2010 10:53 AM

Wait, when did you declare bankruptcy?

dallasnovelty 02-17-2010 10:55 AM

I was in the mortgage business and saw more than one bankruptcy by friends and fairly large companies. The amount charged off does not get charged as income on IRS the following year unless thats something new in the couple months. If it did nobody would do bankruptcy because the IRS would take all their shit for non payment and freeze all assets and then put people in a even bigger hole.
Sometimes bankruptcy is good for companies and people who might have got screwed by a company but alot of people do it every 7-10 years because they cnt pay their bills. Sports stars and celebs are the worst at paying bills, we used to have some ball players buy houses but credit was terrible because they didnt have accountant pay stuff.
Good Luck
