I can't work after I eat

Anyone else have this problem? I just sit and stare. Hard to get back into it.

brassmonkey 02-09-2010 05:56 PM

Cyber Fucker 02-09-2010 05:58 PM

Nope, I feel very well after I eat. :D

fatfoo 02-09-2010 05:59 PM

Sleepiness can occur after eating a big meal.

Nydahl 02-09-2010 06:00 PM

worse here - I can eat after I work

BVF 02-09-2010 06:01 PM

Nope.....I woke up this morning, was at the gym by 8...Left at 10:30, got home and ate a nice lunch, had some brandy and wine, smoked some weed, and updated my site with a nice long story, along with editing the pictures and video...

THEN I got in my recliner chair and slept like a baby.

geedub 02-09-2010 06:50 PM

Getting lazy or remarkably slower directly after eating is a quite common behaviour. Try eating something which isn't so saturated with fat. A normal adult would for lunch be able to fully function on around 10 pieces of sushi. That will also not fill your stomach, it's not that hard to digest but you still get enough energy to keep working without feeling the dizzyness.

Start your day early, a good time to get up is about 7 AM. Do a good, steady breakfast, preferrably with some dairy products, like sour milk or so and a few pieces of whole wheat bread.

By 10 AM it's time for a fruit, an apple or a banana and possibly a cup of coffee if you care for it.

Lunch is best servered between 12-1.30 PM to fit into this schedule. Why not try some sushi? Whatever you drink to your meal, make sure to get an extra glass of water.

By 3 PM it's time for a cup of coffee, a biscuit or a second fruit for the day.

And between 5 and 7 PM it's advisable to get dinner. Now, how about a nice steak? Go for it, but choose other side serving than french fries.

Try it, and you will see that your performance, concentration and overall ability will increase.

That sounds like more work then a real job.

Domain Broker 02-09-2010 08:06 PM

It's typical Sly, something about working while you're hungry helps productivity

junction 02-09-2010 08:15 PM

I have started taking a nap about 2pm everyday. I eat at noon, and by 2, I can't keep my eyes open.

CunningStunt 02-09-2010 08:16 PM

I just ate a rack of lamb, roast potatoes, minted pea puree and gravy, washed down with a few glasses of wine. I can't work now for a few hours, it's siesta time down under :)

Btw, carbs will make you drowsy for a few hours, it's best to eat a light lunch if you want to be productive.

kristin 02-10-2010 12:46 AM

It's settled, you are no longer allowed to eat.

mrwilson 02-10-2010 02:23 AM

Same so i choose not to eat until i am done.
I just drink pints of juice as it makes you feel full anyway :D

seeandsee 02-10-2010 04:18 AM

i cant work after i get up, and after i eat i go to sleep :D

Jarmusch 02-10-2010 04:31 AM

Sleeping after a big meal is a good way to gain fat.

That's what Sumo wrestlers do.

TheMilkman 02-10-2010 05:39 AM

just try to do some sport before u get your dinner and dont eat a big meal :2 cents:

Sarah_Jayne 02-10-2010 06:52 AM

If I eat many carbs then I don't even want to move let alone work.

J. Falcon 02-10-2010 06:56 AM

I tend to get very tired, especially at night.

Serial Pervert 02-10-2010 07:02 AM

i do! i feel like sleeping >:

Chicks Delivery 02-10-2010 07:32 AM

Same problem here....

jalami 02-10-2010 08:25 AM

Yea, the after-lunch doldrums are well documented. It's especially hard to work even after having one beer with lunch:

beerptrol 02-10-2010 08:41 AM

I eat small meals rather than a big meal.

Amputate Your Head 02-10-2010 08:43 AM

I only eat once a day, in the evening. Eliminates the problem altogether.

Very nice. If you don't lean, you can end up making a mess. :thumbsup

michael.kickass 02-10-2010 12:30 PM

Same thing happens to me, it gets harder to focus.

bobby666 02-10-2010 01:43 PM

i know that problem...so i only eat outside

Rover 02-10-2010 01:51 PM

Likely you're either eating the wrong thing or you're eating too much of the wrong thing or you're not eating in the proper way (ie not chewing enough).

If you put something in your digestive system that is hard to digest, then your body's systemic energy must be redirected to the digestive system...that in turn starts to divert energy away from your other systems...so you start feeling sleepy.

When you start getting older like me, you start to look into this stuff more seriously!

I really recommend to everyone to throw "green smoothie" into YouTube (no I'm not selling anything here :)

mattz 04-26-2010 01:49 PM

Take it easy on the simple carbs

bignasty 04-26-2010 02:06 PM

Also could be what you drink with your meal. I used to get the same way a lot until I started drinking water with my meals. If I drink anything with sugar while I eat I get like that.

KingNigel 04-26-2010 03:06 PM

Same thing happens to me.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-26-2010 03:10 PM

I can't work and really focus until I've smoked a bowl, ate a good meal, and taken a shower. Then smoked another bowl...

AmeliaG 04-26-2010 03:11 PM

Eating lower carb or lower glycemic index may help with this.

Konkan 04-26-2010 06:16 PM

TrashyContent 04-26-2010 06:23 PM

I find it hard to work whilst I got wood... and considering what I do thats quite a lot ! Not a lot of work gets done alas :(

StrokeKing 04-26-2010 07:13 PM

i eat easy to digest food when i am working so i dont fall asleep. i think eating heavy meal makes a person sleepy.
