What are your favourite Google tricks?

The stuff that Google can do other than search. For example, I am often using the unit conversion. When I put in '3k in pounds' it gives me "3 kilograms = 6.61386787 pounds"

I am sure there are a ton more I don't know about though.

What Google tricks do you use?

scarlettcontent 02-09-2010 09:09 AM

these are cool, I use them most days

Google Translate http://translate.google.com/

Google Maps http://maps.google.com/

The "latest results for" scrolling thing freaked me out when I first noticed it, because it startled the hell out of me. For instance, go search new orleans saints. Within the top several results is a "latest results for" section which updates right before your eyes.

I use maps, conversion, site specific searches and such. Within maps, I like to tick the boxes for pics, vids, webcam and wiki. You can also search real estate just with maps.google by ticking the checkbox under the MORE button.

Woah, I'll have to check that out. I use maps.google all the time. And the converter is very handy.

"Google Earth" is a very interesting feature that is available to everyone at http://earth.google.com/.

You can use it to zoom in on any location in the world and find maps of places. These are actual satellite photographs that zoom in very close to the earth.

The sit up and Beg is a good one.. But thats more of a webmaster trick for Google than a google trick for the people.

TheDoc 02-10-2010 08:52 AM

Type: translate and the word you want translated

I use this for news...
http://fastflip.googlelabs.com/

For traveling, type in the airline and flight number, google will return the times the plane departs, gets in, delayed, etc..

Or you can type math directly in: ((100 * 100) / 50) + 2 or you can just type 100 x 100 / 50 + 2 and it gives the answer as you're typing it out.

You can check what time it is all over the world without having to look at a world clock: Search: Time in NY

Google has so many...

My favorite google trick, tapping into CCTV security cameras :1orglaugh

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...&aq=f&aqi=&oq=

if you know what footprints to search for, there's thousands upon thousands of CCTV cameras linked into the net. You can even control some of them and move the cameras around! :1orglaugh

That is so cool! But how do you find out which footprints to search for or you can search for?

I like their search button, I can type in whatever it is I'm looking for, press that button, then the bestest sites in the web are displayed. I love it. It gives me wood.

Well, you learn something new everyday.

The Duck 02-15-2010 04:46 AM

unit conversion and translate here

michael.kickass 02-15-2010 05:07 AM

Great thread, I'm bookmarking it.

Something I usually use is when I want to search something within just one site, you just add to the search "site: www.thesiteIwanttolookinto.com" and you're done.

:thumbsup

BTW, I didn't konw about the wonder wheel. :thumbsup

I didn't even really know about the translate until recently. I was still going to Bablefish.

rowan 02-16-2010 08:06 AM

I'd forgotten about all of the axis cams online...

The fun thing about loading up the first few results is that others are using them too... it's time for panning wars!!! :D
