there have been Flash apps like this for years - practically all web surfers have Flash - so what's the advantage HTML 5 will have over Flash?

I hate flash, but html5 (videos) will not be only thing on the web for next three years.

Because it will be a standard, and not rely on the whims of what a 3rd party for-profit company says it should be?
