Pc Tech question reagrdingg Dual monitors

Dell PC , I dumped in a new graphic card with dual outputs to use a extra monitor....

Now the second monitor isnt recognized.... Could this be a power supply issue and needing a bigger PS? Basic graphic card PCI Express slot not used for gaming or anything

Thx lmk if anybody has idea as i am googling about it also but gFY is faster sometimes lol

Doesn't sound like a PSU issue to me. What card is it?

Oracle Porn 02-06-2010 08:43 AM

you sure both outputs work on the card? is it new?

Sometimes I have luck installing a dual monitor software program using it to recognize both monitors and then uninstalling.

Try out extramon or things like it.

Not being recognized in the control panel under devices or just not turning on?

EdgeXXX 02-06-2010 08:54 AM

It could be a number of things. A few questions:

1. What OS are you running on it?
2. Are the monitors identical or at least running the same resolution?
3. Is the second monitor not being detected or just not recognized (as in it sees the monitor just doesn't know it's specs)?

Video Card recognized under Control Panel. OG Monitor hooked up to vga slot on card second hooked to dvi output.

I swapped the monitors in and out to the vga slot to make sure it wasnt faulty monitor and they both worked individually on the vga slot...

:(

open the video card software and tell it to 'extend your desktop' to a second monitor... be in the control panel under displays I think or a right click on the desktop. it's not 'automatic'

do any work on the dvi slot?

I am gonna try some more things.... the graphic card says you need a 300w PS on the box.... I think i will need a less power intensive card or other option is to upgrade the power supply

EdgeXXX 02-06-2010 09:12 AM

Might be a dead DVI connector. May want to test and verify the DVI to rule that out.

What size is the PSU in your system?

Exactly. Juicy, if your system has PCI-E slots, I would assume your PSU is more than 300W.

Not only that but a card like the one he bought will need a PSU with enough amps on the 12v+ rails. That's usually more important than the watts, most average computers don't take up anywhere near 300w. Most PSUs don't have good 12v+ rails, it's cheaper to makem with crappy 12v+ rails. The box or manual probably says how many amps the card needs.

But if ya haven't done so yet, try grabbing the drivers from nvidia.com and use their software in the control panel.

sandman! 02-06-2010 10:21 AM

start off by installing the newest video card drivers for your video card.
