SEO question...maybe

What's the purpose of putting a hardlink on your website that links to the same exact site it's on??

ex

porndomain.com has a hardlink pointing to porndomain.com

I see alot of big sites that do it. Does this help SEO?

I dunno - curious about this myself. I see a lot of sites in general do this - i.e. putting a link in the footer with particular anchor text they want to rank for that links to the home domain. I'm sure with some sites it's a sitewide link (i.e. Wordpress footer or blogroll in sidebar) and anchor text with internal links is supposed to be very important, but with linking a page to itself I don't see how it would be.

duh no!!

usually it's at the bottom of the page along with some other hardlinks pointing to other sites

porn | free porn | teen porn | porn dvds <--- this one links to the same website it's on

I'm not an SEO expert by any stretch of the imagination but, I'm guessing it probably has something to do with linking between your own pages.

Let's say for example you have a big tits site which has a /big-tits-pornstars page. Any link on your site to that page you'd wan to link with the term "big tits pornstars"

When you're on your homepage, it doesn't hurt to have a link pointing to your own page for the term you want. Because after all a link is a link even if its for the page you're currently on.

Just my own opinion of course. I'm sure some of the actual SEO guys have clearer and more accurate answer.

I helps, I use it myself. I also use another tactic with it.
