Ex Brit Prime Minister Tony Blair Could Be Tried For Iraq War Crimes

Saw this on TV last night..wonder if he will get tried for Iraq war crimes

Tony Blair could still face prosecution for war crimes, leading lawyers warned.

The claim came after two senior Foreign Office lawyers, Sir Michael Wood and Elizabeth Wilmshurst, told the Iraq inquiry the invasion was against international law and amounted to a ?crime of aggression?.

Human rights lawyer Sir Geoffrey Bindman yesterday said there was a case for taking action against Mr Blair for waging an unlawful war.

He said: ?I would not be surprised if a prosecution were attempted in the UK. The difficulty would be to establish his personal responsibility for specific crimes against UK law.?

Sir Geoffrey said there would be serious difficulties in making the case but these were not ?insurmountable?.

I would be very suprised if he did go on charge but you never know over here in the UK. It seems the politicians are really taken a hammering over here atm which I think is a good thing cause most of them are lying scumbags

It will never happen.

That is what I would like to know. If the people who lead the countries that lead the invasion aren't responsible, I sure would like to know who is.

once obama leaves office, the US will cut the legs out from under any country foolish enough to attempt to try Blair.
Bottom line is iraq was not living up to their surrender agreement that they signed after the first gulf war. The winners of that war had every right to go back in and finish the job under those circumstances.

any other version is liberal clap trap.
its the reason our intelligent presidents have NEVER allowed international law to hold sway over the US

Supposedly, if you kill in self defence or you kill the enemies of the state it's not a crime. That's a difficult topic. I wonder what happens next.

Why would anybody be worried if he goes on trial anywhere? If he didnt do anything wrong, he doesnt have anything to worry about. Right?

wild johnny 02-03-2010 10:48 AM

That's the lamest thing I have heard in awhile.

So when Iraq was harboring terrorists that was ok?

Even thinking of doing anything to Tony Blair is laughable he is one of the good guys. How Lame!!

JP-pornshooter 02-03-2010 10:54 AM

I heard the hearing the other day on the radio, it sounded like he could be in trouble.
It is a classic story of David against Goliath.
Basically a mother of a dead UK soldier requested the entire "why did we go to war in Irak" to be publicly audited and reviewed.
I would say its only right, government officials need to be kept responsible of any wrong doings.

Iraq was harboring terrorists when Gen. Schwarzkoph under Bush the first got Iraq to sign a cease fire and agree to the no-fly zone. Prior to that whole gulf war, iraq had gassed the kurdish people. We didnt do anything. We only acted when Iraq invaded Kuwait. And we did not persist to baghdad and kill the leader.
Many of the so-called "reasons" for gulf war 2 are just twisting in the wind.

We, by which I mean ultimately Bush, decided to invade Iraq after 9/11 because it was low hanging fruit. Make no mistake. Dont let any political party steer your opinion away from the simple facts here. The UN council was the proper venue to reach the conclusion to invade, and when that didnt go our way.. we denegrated the french ambassador and insinuated that france was on iraq's side because they had a deal to help iraq build nuclear reactors. We dumped out wine and we decided that the way to cut potatoes was not "french" anymore, it was "freedom". These things are all ridiculous but true examples of the lengths our government went to, in order to sell the iraq war to our country. Just make no mistake about this.

If Blair has nothing to worry about, then he has nothing to worry about. Whats with this fear of judicial systems lately? It sounds like people have something to worry about when they fear a fair trial.
