So hard to get a pizza right in Panama :(

Is it really so hard to just put extra cheese and double pepperoni on a pizza and make it "well done" with the pepperoni on top??

I know it's a different country and they do things differently here, but damn, all a guy needs sometimes is a good fattening double pepperoni extra cheese pizza!

I have to get my Panamanian buddy to order for me as mi espanol no es bueno. First order from Domino's over the phone, told him what I wanted, he laughed and said "they won't do it" ... i'm just like what? that's really weird why won't they put extra cheese and pepperoni on my pizza and other crap, he's just like well nobody does that here I'll ask but they won't do it trust me. So he ordered to my specs and sure enough no extra cheese, no extra pepperoni, pizza is doughy as hell nowhere near well done!

So we go to some mom and pop joint tonight, and the waitress was just so confused by my order. It must have taken at least 15 min of explaining. She's all like wow that's a lot of cheese, and we can't put the pepperoni on top it'll get burned and what do u mean cook it well done, like toasted? no not toasted, cooked more but not burned...... at this point i felt like i had committed a crime or something.

Well props to the restaurant for getting it right! Really was a GREAT pizza! But the waitress just seemed so pissed off when she handed me back my change after I paid after the meal and just didn't even look at us or even say bye when we left.

I kinda feel bad now for giving them such a hard time, I guess there'll be no extra cheese or extra pepperoni or well done pizzas for me while I'm here :(

It's a great pizza place but not sure if I want to set foot back in this place for a while. Maybe it'll be delivery next time.

And there's my rant of the evening.....

These are the joys of being somebody that lives outside of their home country. At least with where I live it is (mostly) the same language where I grew up. Though, they don't do pizza right here either.

Aw! I hungry now for pizza.

They can hardly get a pizza right here as well. Only really good on is from Costco.

Indeed. It's so easy and good fun. Only thing is to use 00 flour and live yeast and leave the dough 24 hours AT LEAST before making your pizza.

Yep that's a great idea, my buddy and I even talked about doing that one day but we've been out and about quite a bit and eating out quite a bit.

The food here is GREAT don't get me wrong! Well priced and excellent! I love Panama, this is my third time here. Maybe I'll just stick to the local delicacies like "Corvina" and "Ceviche" etc etc.

As far as I remember this is the first year I've ordered pizza and just found it weird that even a big corporate chain restaurant like Domino's wouldn't even honour my request for "extra cheese".

Well I guess it's a small trade-off for staying here. I need to lose some weight anyways, time to shed some of my North American ways and adapt! lol

Ouuff, you're making me home sick! I grew up there and know just what you mean lol. Pizza is a new concept for us. I live in the Philippines now and no offense to my Filipino friends but good food here is a commodity :Oh crap Although the pork adobo rocks!

The fun part is you get to discover food you never even knew existed before that turns out to rock. For every downside of moving away there is a plus side.

Yes Domino's here really sucks! The town I'm living in now doesn't have very many big chain restaurants. Actually the only two are Domino's and Mcdonald's with a KFC under construction.

On the plus side, there are a TON of EXCELLENT local restaurants!

For example, one place I went to a couple weeks ago, Ordered the New York Steak dinner, basically came with two steaks (I was expecting the meal to come with only one of the size that each one was), veggies, a side of paticones (plantanes), salad and a small corn on the cob.... the price?

Less than $7 USD. And it was DAMN good to boot!

I forget sometimes since all the local currency says "United States of America" on it :error

Besides, Panama is much more fun than the United States. Especially while living here with an outside source of income

Canada was downright depressing after spending Nov 2008-Feb2009 in Panama and coming back in the middle of winter. I definitely know the feeling of Panama withdrawal :thumbsup

Feels good to be back!
