going into the country with banned porn sites, what to do?
well, i am going into the arabian country for two weeks and my friend already told me, its not possible to see even the stats of regular sponsors.
what is the most easiest way to get around banned porn sites? VPS connection? i know webmasters living in thailand do have same problem, so what is their solution? |
I'd imagine proxies would work great for this sort of thing. If they have public proxies blocked, you might have to subscribe to a private proxy.
|
When I was in Dubai last year even proxies were blocked. They have some sort of very smart filter.
|
Just forget about it. Is it worth going to some dirty desert jail just because you need to check your sponsors?
|
Your name is already on "the list" and you will be severely beaten upon getting off your plane.

What country is it? I had no troubles in Egypt or Tunisia...got even porn site recommendations from the guy working in the internet cafe. :)
|
But mobile internet will get you everything everywhere, it will be just more expensive...but for checking stats its good enough.
|
Install truecrypt on your laptop, so all drives are encrypted. then signup for a vpn from strongvpn.com so you can an encrypted vpn to connect to your stats from. Use opendns dns servers rather then what DHCP assigns to you when you get there. I run like this on a daily basis in a country that does NOT have porn banned

I'd image my laptop drive (to restore it later), do a full secure erase (not just a format) of the HD, then a clean install. Same on the way out. You never know if customs are going to poke around your laptop. Or I'd just leave the laptop at home and forget about doing anything for 2 weeks... :2 cents: |
Proxy is the only way to skip that problem

VPN to a proxy somewhere out of that country.

i didnt have a problem with checking of my stats even in Iran, so i am not afraid a lot, but for sure, its better to go in clean way. |

They'd probably just think there was something wrong with the drive. |

FWIW my home/office NAS is encrypted. If it reboots it requires a password entered before it will function. |

exactly. well they got their computers just few years ago and not they should be experts? there is some kind of PC expertise in those backwards countries, but .... |
Hmm, Maybe have someone you trust do it for you. And then just call them.

The shit in thailand was just a mumble jumble, did it really come true? i don't think there really is a big ban even like arab countries in there, isn't it? |
I wouldn't even want to risk it.
