Question for photographers who use macs
Hi - I have a question for photographers out there who use macs.
Very often on TV when I see photographers shooting, the image they shoot appears instantly on their Macs. Anyone know how this is done? When I connect my D80 to my Mac, it just sits in PC mode waiting to offload pictures, but doesn't let me shoot. Help! |
quad core bluetooth, through aperture, i think you need the quadcore though

probably looking at guys who have a wireless transmitter as well. Nikon makes them not to sure about the d80.
Usually used to show off to clients... |

are you talking about tethering software? look into CaptureOne

You don't need fancy tethering software to do this.
Assuming you have some sort of decent photo software, like Aperture, Lightroom, GraphicConverterX, etc.... you can set a *dump* folder, that auto-downloads and displays as you shoot. But yes, you need to either have some kick ass bluetooth connection, or a tethered cable connection to the camera. (or be really fast at pulling & plugging that SD card) |
tethered usually through wireless (you need a transmitter device if going wireless) or wired
if you get nikon software (called nikon capture) you should be good to go. |
It's called tethering and you can do it on the higher end RAW capture / processing applications like Aperture and Capture One. Maybe Lightroom as well, I'm not sure.

Being tethered with a physical cord sucks it will eventually wreck either your camera jack or the computer jack or both just because of the pulling on it plus you are very very limited on distance with it.
wireless is the best. or you can get one of the new wirelss cards...have not tried them but they are suppose to work... |
i have a wireless transmitter for my nikon d2x, it works with mac.
it screws into the bottom of your camera, if you are interested i might be interested in parting ways with it since i dont use it much (for adequate compensation obviously) |
