DESIGNERS - What Computer System's you running?

I have the following in my system

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
8 Gigabyte DDR3 Ram
500 Gigabyte Hard Drive
GeForce 7600 GTS Gfx with 512mb Video Ram
Samsung T240 24 Inch Screen @ 1920 x 1200 res
Logitech G500 mouse
Wacom Bamboo Tablet (Sucks but I wanted a basic one to use in case ... used it once).

:D

What's your shit set up like? Do you need more power? I find Photoshop, when I have PSD's at 6000px tall and 50 layers get a little hungry for power even with my 8 gb ram!

AMD Phenom 2 X4 940
8 GB DDR3 OCZ
2x500Gb HDD Western Digital 7200rmp
GeForce GTX 285 with 1GB on the board
Apple Cinema Display 23', 1920x1200
Logitech MX 518 mouse, Logitech UltraX slim keyboard
Vista x64
:P

Oh yeah ... I run a (legit copy - have to say that as so many people rip it off) Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Fucking love it! :)

MaxDiz 01-26-2010 11:11 AM

Well, I actually bought Vista and want to say I never had problems with it. Honestly, working like clocks.
Indeed, heard many good compliments regarding Win7, but Im too lazy to upgrade my current OS :)

Well, I agree. Vista was shakey at first, but became very solid and was a great OS. I knew a friend at Rare in the UK who are owned by MS so I got Vista Ultimate boxed (two copies) for £19.50 each :)

Recently I got Windows 7 Ultimate for free as again I know people who were able to sort me out. So I'm VERY happy. I was using the beta and then RC of Windows 7 and moving to the final seemed like a great idea. As cool as Vista was. 7 is better and worth the move.

MaxDiz 01-26-2010 11:18 AM

Vista for 19.50 pounds sounds like good deal! You've got some luck, congrats :)

I got XP when it was standard for £17 per box. Helps to know people on the inside. lol

And Windows 7 for free ... well, can't go wrong :)

I suspect my next OS will be damn near free too. And best of all it's legit.

I'm not a designer but my box is Intel Core 2 Duo.

Can you even run a pirated copy of Windows anymore? Don't they basically have them crippled now so if you don't have a legit copy you can't get windows updates?

Just curious, I would never run a pirated OS as I would be afraid of stability issues.

TripleXPrint 01-26-2010 11:52 AM

Intel Core 2 Duo
8 Gigabyte DDR3 Ram
1TB Hard Drive
GeForce 1.8gb Video Ram
(2) Dell 24" High Resolution 1080 Monitors
Windows 7 (64)

It's a Dell XPS with all the bells and whistles.

You're supposedly allowed to install up to 3 instances of Windows before it sends off any alarms. That is what the Microsoft tech told me when my system crashed and I had to reinstall my OS.

Yah ... I reinstalled Vista about 10 times because I was a bit of a software test geek back then ... I'd sign up to every beta out there and mess with everything. But I liked a clean system so I'd keep reinstalling. Microsoft activated it online every time with no problems.

However ... when I had XP ... evey time I reinstalled, Microsoft made me phone up and activate with a real person!

In regards to pirating Windows. Yes. I know people who pirate it. I just can't bring myself to do it. I did when I was a kid. But that's before systems came with Windows on them. I had a pirate copy of DOS6 and Windows 3.11. LOL!

I think I pirated Windows 95 too.

But nah... since XP and on, and earning money with systems I use, I couldn't bring myself to pirating. I feel too bad. Hell, I even paid $25 for my copy of Flash FXP FTP application :) hehe. It feels so much better owning things.

I don't pirate videogames either. And I don't download illegal music. I think it's as bad as stealing someone's wallet.

i try to buy shit that is up to date and serves me well for a year or 2. I do NOT use desktops anymore. Notebooks and attached 24" Dell.

KILL_FRENZY 01-26-2010 05:40 PM

Intel Core i5,
8 GB
2x2 TB hdd +1 250 MB at 10k rpm all WD
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX275 graphic card
Some model of wide Dell display I'm fucking in love with
Logitech Mouse & Keyboard,
All legit shit on it

And it works great. The graphic card improved my 3d rendering a lot and I suppose it would help run games better...
