cheaper domain registrar with domain privacy than godaddy?
i just renewed a domain with privacy on for a year at godaddy - 18 bucks. that's ridiculous. what's a cheaper registrar that's solid?
|
I would call GoDaddy since that is not the normal rate they charge.
|

Godaddy often offers the 1st year privacy free to renew it at full price, haven't found one myself which offers free privacy as long as you renew the domain |
If you use godaddy, NEVER renew or purchase a godaddy domain without searching "godaddy promo codes" in Yahoo or Google, and then keep trying new ones until you get a discount.
Never pay godaddy prices. |
transfer to namecheap for 6.99 with privacy
|
no wonder they can afford to advertise on the Super Bowl.
18 bucks - probably a 200% profit for them on that transaction. |
I did an analysis once on what GoDaddy makes on their whois privacy and it's something like $27 or $45 million a year.
I remembered coming across the number of domains that had privacy and I did the math. RIDICULOUS! |

Brutal. I might seriously look into moving my domains to namecheap if they do privacy free. |
If you can qualify for a Fabulous.com wholesale account, they're < $8 with free privacy. I'm on their best tier of pricing, so $7.49 .com's with free privacy, and they're not in the US so a lot more safe than a registrar like GoDaddy. Also, if you're transferring 500+, even with a new account without best tier pricing, if you do them all at once yuo'd get $7.16 per .com domain (cheaper than GoDaddy by a penny with free privacy always for any domain - you'll never have to pay for privacy).

I have 40 unused privacy guards sitting in my account tho, so it's not a big deal at all. |
That cheap domain name registration is how they suck you in.

1&1 Internet has 6.99 to 8.99 domains with privacy
I got my domains on 1&1 now. Great pricing, free privacy. 1&1 is a huge web site hoster, so they have a solid backing and solid name.
http://riveroffers.com/banners/banner_click.gif 1&1 domains and internet hosting They are somewhat bureaucratic about identification when opening accounts, but their prices are excellent. They have good and cheap hosting packages, but I haven't tried the hosting yet. You have to dig a little to get to the domain buying places, seems they are not too keen on selling domains. I just renewed some domains with privacy, no problem whatsoever .... MY RENEWAL: 4 10569 .com Domain $8.99 per year 12 mo. $ 8.99 .com Special Offer: $ 6.99 first year* no setup fee domain: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com created: 23-Dec-2008 last-changed: 24-Dec-2009 registration-expiration: 23-Dec-2010 status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED registrant-firstname: Oneandone registrant-lastname: Private Registration registrant-organization: 1&1 Internet, Inc. - registrant-street1: 701 Lee Road, Suite 300 registrant-street2: ATTN: 18adultreviews.com registrant-pcode: 19087 registrant-state: PA registrant-city: Chesterbrook registrant-ccode: US registrant-phone: +1.8772064254 registrant-email: [email protected] |

1&1 domains and internet hosting http://riveroffers.com/banners/banner_click.gif I know they were a pain to sign up for, they wanted scans of my ID etc. But once it works, it works fine. Do you know anything bad about them that I don't know? |
