Network Solutions: $40 domain registrations

NetworkSolutions.com charge $35 per domain registration plus $5 for privacy

That's $40 per domain / year

How do they stay in business?

wii-d 01-22-2010 05:11 AM

They stay because they never fuck you up and let no one fuck you up.
If you run a serious website (not a tgp ya know) which has business value - you should go with them.

hjnet 01-22-2010 05:11 AM

With $40/year they can spend a lot on Advertising

Oracle Porn 01-22-2010 05:20 AM

they also don't hold your domain ransom when you forget to renew

JamesK 01-22-2010 05:23 AM

They were the first and don't whore themselves out. I guess domain owners feel quite safe with them.

cardinalvices 01-22-2010 05:35 AM

To stay in the business doesn't mean to be the cheapest in the business.

cardinalvices 01-22-2010 06:33 AM

Ok I admit, it sounded like shit, but you get the idea :)

woj 01-22-2010 07:59 AM

Exactly! Call them up and threaten to move your sites to another registrar and the price will drop to $9.99 - no shit!

Fuck all of you guys, NS has some of the most shady business practices ever, they are the ones who keep notes of all domains searched and then buy them. Go a head and search for a domain that's available and then check back later and you'll find it's owned by NS and "for sale" they were busted for this a couple years ago and still do it.

Adraco 01-22-2010 08:45 AM

NS was the first and only one a number of years ago. I know of many companies who has registered with them and then never switched. Mostly because $40 a year is nothing when you talk big corporations, it costs more to administrate and oversee that the bill actually gets paid than the bill itself. Those coprorations advertise for millions of dollars each year, they don't care is the true answer to why they stay with NS. They simply don't care what price they are being charged, because at the end of the day, it's hadlry noticeable on the bottom line.

Let's say you own 300 domain names (not uncommon)...

300 x $7.95 = $2,385

300 x $35.00 = $10,500

That's a savings of over $8,000 p/year.

If you don't think that number means anything, then more power to you!

CaptainHowdy 01-22-2010 09:01 AM

Bunch of bastards LOL...

BlackCrayon 01-22-2010 09:08 AM

they keep the prices high because there are still a ton of people who only have a couple of domains with them from back the in day when they were the only game in town. they most likely have no idea about prices outside of netsol.

NETbilling 01-22-2010 09:15 AM

We still keep our NETbilling.com domain there. I just feel more comfortable for some reason having it there other than Godaddy. The rest of my domains are at godaddy and Moniker.

NetSol isn't any better than godaddy or moniker.

And yeah, re-read what CIVMatt said. They are assholes just like everyone else.

Also keep in mind how easily sex.com was stolen from them. They just changed the ownership based on a phone call.

GonZo 01-22-2010 09:21 AM

I remember when they charged $70 and there was no such thing as privacy...

then again I remember when they were free too

Moniker is awesome... don't get me wrong. Godaddy just makes me a bit uncomfortable the way they whore themselves out. It is hard to trust a $20m business with them.

While that may be true on the surface, if you own 300 domain names you are a Network Solutions VIP and that means you will not be paying the full retail rate. I can't quite remember what the VIP rate was, as it has been far to long since I moved my domain names, but I remember it wasn't quite as cheap as GoDaddy.

What they claim to be known for is their superior security for your domain names as compared to other what they hint at saying fly by night companies, who offer cheap domain names in bulk. I don't know how true this is but that is their claim to fame at this time.

i agree, and if someone wants your domain name, you better not be a day late paying for renewal.
