Never used it but if I had to pick a script I would either wait for v4 from SocialEngine (about 2 months until it is released) or use Anahitapolis which will be free and out next month.

v4 from SocialEngine is a complete rewrite and while it will have a lot of the features of v3 which you can see on their site it is totally different (lighter, faster, new features) and way more interactive. it is the closest thing I have seen to a FB clone yet. If you ask them nicely maybe they will show you the v4 preview which is only available to license holders of their software as they take it out of Alpha into beta then final release. It was fine this morning (and every other time I've been to their site) but does seem slow now.
