Screen Recording Software Recommendations? (NOT Camtasia)

I just tried Camstudio, ended up having to reboot my machine and uninstall it. Made my screen flash a kaleidoscope of colours, and stopped windows working. Sure, it's free, but it's also useless if it does that.

Camtasia is $300, and I only need to make one demo video.

This sort of software should have a pricepoint of < $100.

Any recommendations? I'm googling now, but if anyone knows anything that does the job, please let me know.

Adobe Captivate, though it might be overkill.

This one works perfectly on my system (which is new btw, maybe camstudio doesn't like Win7): http://www.smallvideosoft.com/screen-video-capture/ and is FREE too.

My pick would have to be jing

http://www.jingproject.com/

free, go pro if you want more options, think its only $15 a year, and gives you like 2 gigs of space and 2gigs bandwidth a month on screencast.com

Thanks Fris, I'll take a look at that too.
