I got my new mouse! Logitech G500

Yeah, I got it finally ... my old mouse had damn well died on me. I waited 8 days for it to be delivered, and they came by when I was in bed ... so I drove over at 7am thismorning to get the mouse from the sorting office. Finally I can click. I actually have RSI from clicking the old mouse so hard so much to get it to work ... it's weird not having to click so hard now! LOL!

The mouse is awesome ...

The buttons are solid but easy to click ... the mouse can be weighted to suit your needs ... comes with a little holder for weights of which you get a lovely little metal case with 6 4.5g weights and 6 1.7g weights. You put them into a little box and slide that into the mouse. Was perfect without any weights for me.

It has a little button below the scroll wheel that allows you to set it to smooth scroll or clicking scroll ... I like when it clicks when you scroll.

Shape is perfect for my hand, so comfort isn't an issue. It's an all round brilliant feeling mouse.

One little touch I love is that while it's cabled (gaming mice always are), the cable is coated in a material and feels like string! It means it doesn't get caught on other rubber cables so never gets awkward.

Anyway ... so far so good and I'd easily recommend it. It feels like it was built by the military too ... my last two mice were Razer's and they're gaming mice, meant to be some of the best ... but they died after a few months each. I know I use them quite a lot, but that's ridiculous!

cool looking mice, i dig the extra weights idea - maybe gonna give it a try. quick question though, usually those light indicators show battery level, what does it represent on this one? seems like some sort of speed indicator

Nice. I have the G9. It's got the weights too, and changeable outer shell. Wider grip.

just got the g500 recently myself, amazing mouse! helps out in mw2 so much, its like i see a guy and all of a sudden my mouse is right over his head whereas with my other mice its a hit and miss and i gotta do like a last millisecond readjust

little indicator is for the dpi, you can change the sensitivity right on the mouse so if you need it to be able to go across a screen fast you can or if you need something slower and more precise you can do it without getting out of the game or whatever

i need to replace this 1st gen g5, from when logitech thought it was a good idea to put only 1 frikin mouse button on the thumb. brilliant design choice for a gaming mouse (eyeroll).

the weights are kind of a waste.

probably gonna get one of these g500's with my upcoming new build. gotta have more than 1 thumb button.

Not very well recieved by a lot of the mac community tho ... I think you'll find these dedicated mice are better for long periods of work time.

The speed indicator icon is a DPI setting so in fact does speed and slow the mouse's cursor down :) it's good ... But I don't think I'll use it much other than on full :)

And yes, I realise that not ALL gaming mice are wired ... but a Razer was quoted ... and I've just gone through two Razers and I'm disgusted with the quality. So no chance will I buy another.

I also have the Logitech MX Revolution for my main windows machine. Its probably the best mouse I've ever used.

Apart from the ones that aren't.

I've already had that conversation :) And yes, some aren't. But traditionally, gaming mice have been mostly wired because wireless hasn't been as snappy. Only in recent times have wireless mice become more accepted by the hardcore gaming community.

Anyways ... you should have read the thread, then you'd not have had to repeat someone else :)

I've always used Logitech mice, but lately I switched to Microsoft Sidewinder X8 and couldn't be happier. It has that nice resolution switcher feature, very helpful when you need an extra bit of precision.

I have been using the same Logitech G5 for about 4/5 years so they are definitely reliable. I think it has the same features as your apart from the smooth scroll thing. But I prefer click scroll so not an issue. The weight thing is also a nice touch I hate when my mice are 4.5g too lite :-)
