Blogs - How many posts a day is too many?

I need to add "place holders" for future reviews, so how many should I add a day?

Is there such a thing as to many as long as I continue the other normal daily post?

FrozenJag 01-13-2010 01:27 PM

I wouldnt post over 3 per day, but 1 will do just fine.

Although im not a blog expert. I have however had good results with 1 per day. If you post too many then google will see all brand new content each time it comes which will in effect backfire on you.

Consistency is king, do not add anymore then you want to have to add from here on in. There is no 'set amount' that is correct. What's correct will be determined by how you build and run the site.

Best advice I can give (I've build dozens and dozens), keep it consistent, if you are planning on an update a day, stay at that. If the site is new, and its 'empty' then add enough posts to just get a post into each of your main categories, and then start on daily.

Last blog I built from ground up had 26 categories (A through Z, pornstars would be child cats of these) and I added one star for each letter upon build, then added one a day, and occasionally 'spice' it up and add 2 or 3 in a day, or 3 to one girl.

Be consistent, be deliberate, and be committed.

Oh yeah, and edit, do not use placeholders, don't put a page up if there isn't content on it. You don't ask google to come, then show them a blank page, or duplicate (placeholder/construction page)

Engadget updated their blog with 29 full posts in the last 24 hours. Do you think they're getting penalized? They rank #1 for just about every technology related keyword there is.

Google doesn't penalize for having a lot of great content with frequent updates. In fact, Google will come more often when they see you updating more often, because it doesn't want to miss out on that great content that people are searching for.

Ok let me rephrase a bit, the "place holder" page will have links to related reviews on the same site, obviously, I will be targeting different related keywords from each page.

I do 1 per day on my blogs and they do just fine

Babaganoosh 01-13-2010 03:13 PM

One post a day is too many if it isn't a quality post. There's no shame in only updating every 2-3 days.

StaceyJo 01-13-2010 06:49 PM

1 per day

Supz 01-13-2010 07:32 PM

I can agree with that. Google is prob hitting that site 25 times per day so its all good. While mister 1 update per day if he post 25 in one day he will not be be happy for the next couple weeks IMO. Unless he is an authority site then maybe just maybe all would be ok.

I think JDoughs gave spot on advice.

Normally when I work for people they have me get a few posts up for google to crawl, then they have me schedule them anywhere from 3-5 days apart. I am personally working on a blog that I am making it look like was updated from every day from June 1st last year until now and in the future. Taking a while, but I am getting there.

BigRod 01-14-2010 02:47 AM

I run hundreds of blogs and some of them get updated 5 times a day. According to my results the more updates the more Google love.

Agent 488 01-14-2010 02:52 AM

how can you have too many. if you had 100 updates a day surfers would love all the fresh content.

MasterBlow 01-14-2010 03:41 AM

one post per day is enough

KILL_FRENZY 01-14-2010 04:15 AM

One should do.

Ginn 01-14-2010 04:26 AM

I'd also say 1 a day is enough. Actually 3-5 a week also work fine:)

It all depends what you're trying to do. Mainstream or porn? Selling something (splog like) or trying to build up some consistent interactive multimedia content you're going to be actively participating in.

You can toss up 6 or so posts and never see the blog again. On the other hand you can update every fucking 15 minutes if there is some reason to do so (mostly these days twitter or something like it is for the later though if it's something that needs that much updating).

I'm not sure where all these unwritten rules come from. I'd love to see someone point it out to me along with the proof to back it up.

TheSenator 01-14-2010 05:34 AM

Update your blog consistently with a original works. I update about six times a day with all original content.

kmanrox 01-14-2010 05:55 AM

i'd agree with alot of people here but my personal rule of thumb is no more than 2x per day.

Relentless 01-14-2010 06:22 AM

JDoughs is correct.

The number of posts per day also creates an 'expectation' of how many posts you will make in the future. A site updating 5x per day consistently will do better than a 1x per day... But 1x per day consistently will do better than 20x per day once in a while and 0x per day for weeks.

Buy or create a year of content. Then automate publication with a set schedule to make it live. Once you have a year of content your site will update consistently with no guesswork.

If you are looking for bookmarkers you should update many times per day. The text in the updates is a factor when google ranks your main page and if this text updates 10 times a day you might not rank ultimately for the keywords you want unless you write your updates with similar keywords each time etc. Ofc It also depends on how many words the updates are, how many updates you have on the main page etc.

This said you can still rank very good and have more traffic with lots of updates since links in with title and description match is more important right now.
