is there any good accounts or accounting companies that cater to the industry?

Who do you use to do your accounting? I once had someone refuse to do my tax returns and monthly accounting because of the nature of my business. I've since moved on to someone else who is local and cool with it.... not that it should be any of their business anyway. What I do is legal and numbers on a page to them, should be none of their concern how i make it.

Has anyone here had those issues, or worried about using someone locally because they might gossip about what you do for a living?

Anyone know of accounting companies that target our industry and are cool with what we do ?

I dont know of any that target adult pr say, but i have found a great local accoundant.
And a book keeper that comes to the office 1 day a week.

Not sure where you are based but if its close to Vancouver ill get you his info, although i suspect its not lol

was hoping to find a company or two that focus on adult, if there are any that post here or people here know of.

so does everyone use their "local guy" or not file taxes at all lol ;)

I got a local guy here.. he kicks ass. found me lots of claims I would have missed, plus if you do your own return for self employment you are very likey to push a red flag for an audit.

If you are doing internet marketing or photography you dont have to give a detailed account of all your adventures.. classify your biz as internet sales or photography sales. Neither are illegal... and honestly I think any authorative figure would understand why I wish not to discuss the issue.

Adult content ot not adult content has nothing to do with your income tax. (as long as its legal in the eyes of the law. Your accountant is not your lawyer.)

If I told him he'd prolly perv me and that would creep me out.

do you guys have book keepers in addition to accountants? or your accountant does it all.. i am honestly wasting too much time doing this shit.. i need a good book keeper who will categorize & record all income/expense, then send it off to my accountant to figure out..

Bookkeeping is easy. Just stick all your receipts and check stubs in a basket... add it up at the end of the year and give your numbers to your accountant.

Categorize and file receipts and be sure to save verything for 5 years. If our self employed from home you can claim alot.

its not easy.. i need to know what expense is what, etc. its a mess and no fun

Get a bookkeeper that will reconcile things once a month , save up all the receipts, checks etc and they can keep it updated in quickbooks. Give a copy of the quickbooks file to your accountant at the end of the year.

I went to school for accounting actually just before I started making lots of money and got hooked on the internet lol. Almost had my CMA.

That was like 1999.

We used accpac then.. Im sure theres something way easier.

A lot of people don't even know where to start, what you can claim. etc... How much do you pay on SS, how much to take on salary and/or draws (bonuses), paying fed & state taxes, quarterly estimates, if you are incorperated and advantages of llc vs inc etc.. for tax purporses...

there a million things you can do wrong and right when it comes to taxes. Having the right person helping you is huge.

The problem i had in the past is because my company name was adult in nature and gave it away, its unavoidable then. That;s another thing I would suggest to people, when you incorporate don't use a name like "Adult Marketing" unless you want a lot of people to know what you do, you would be surprised how many times you have to show someone your tax returns.

If your home based make sure you save all for car amd home expenses also. Mortgage, leases, gas, utititles, insurance, property tax, repairs, etc.

Home based businesses are a great tax haven whether they make a profit or not.

Adult is not illegal. My prior accountant knew (female old lady) It was less embarrasing to discuss it with her than this new guy. lol.

I dont use a company name. Im Canadian but im 0 rated GST my clients are all US based.

The best suggestion I can give you. If you are self employed DO NOT FILE YOUR OWN RETURN. Even if you are capable and know how. Hire an accountant.

No adult is not illegal, but people can turn you down for "moral" reasons. I've had it happen more than a few times. If you don't want to potentially go through all of the BS, then it is easier to use a generic name or something not "XXX".

Sabby 02-02-2010 09:56 PM

Im not worried about being turned down for being immoral. Im more worried about them being turned on...
