you help out family?

how many of you here do very well and got bro/sisters struggling to make ends meet with 9-5

i got tons of family, dont even know how to start helping short of just giving them some cash.. not like i can teach them what i do..

it kinda sucks knowing that i make more in a month than some of my family members make in a year... what do you guys do about this? give em cash monthly? just watch them suffer?

If you look at it from one side - money is the root of all evil.

But, then again from the other side - money can buy all the neccessary goods and services.

Yes I do and it sucks.

They are only family I have left, and there are a lot of for-never-loans I have had to give out over the years I will never see back.

They will never manage to get much further they are now unless you do something to boost them higher... buy house, give them a job, etc.. However, those are not real alternatives to their lack of motivation or financial management.

:2 cents:

I would help them if they needed help...

I was just telling my sister that my side projects are really kicking in, I am not a program owner yet...but an affiliate who will listen to advice and is always learning how to make money. I sure wish I got into this biz a while back...

What I did tell my sister, now that my niece is older...is perhaps take some college night classes.

so they can take refinance their house?

helping family is tricky, id help and at the same time try to help them long term by seeing what they can learn and do for work short term or long term, many family members once they get money from you will stop looking for work, start talking how much you have and slowly talk about the little things they did for you when you where 6 months old and how you owe them.

very tricky

lol. Suffering and problem solving encourages growth. If you just give it to them it won't make most of them better, happier people. For some it will surely end up making things worse. Life isn't meant to be easy. Just don't them them die from starvation or the other perils of poverty.

That would probably seem like a good idea until that frees up 1/3-1/2 of their monthly income for other things.. 2 years later they have a killer meth/coke/whiskey/hooker/porn addiction and remortgage their house behind your back to get a quick 30k then end up losing their "paid for house"

There's that famous quote:

problem is my family have regular 9-5 jobs.. like making 50k/yr on average and stuff. so its not like i can just teach them what i do, plus i rather not.. its too much work..

but like i said, i feel bad knowing i make their bi monthly paycheck in less than one day... plus they are trying to make ends meet, bills, etc.. i got a family member now pregnant 8months , still working cuz she needs the money

im thinking of just wiring her $20k and telling her to quit work until after the baby..

What would you do if someone wired you almost half your yearly income and told you to just relax for a while? Seems like there would be better ways to help out with a baby.. When's the baby shower? Hard to spend a baby crib or playpen or 5000 diapers inappropriately. Why tempt her?

kush 01-10-2010 12:31 PM

Fix the root of the problem. Different problems require different solutions. I'll best most of them don't involve writing checks but rather encouraging growth and learning. It's rarely too late.

xxweekxx 01-10-2010 01:05 PM

well baby shower i already gave her money for.. my family members all have professional degrees, minimum one makes is 50k, while the other clears 100k+

but still they are all miserable.. i feel so bad watching them work day after christmas, etc, have 2 week vacation/year, while i sit here, can take vacations when i want, and i clear their yearly salary in a month.. oh well life isnt fair

if i had a billion id give each of them 10k/month for life.. but i dont have a billion.lol and cant give each 10k/month.. i also have my own shit to worry about..

need to buy a house someday.. get married.. wedding.. my own kids.. etc

No offense to your family but for fucks sake... if they can't make it in the world making that kind of money they are doing something very wrong and it is not your duty to figure it out for them nor help them. Whatever money you give them, be guaranteed they will mismanage it like they already do their own. From your initial statements I thought you meant they wear working for peanuts. Damn.

Your kidding right?

If these so called family members can't get by on 50-100k a year NOTHING you add to their incomes will help. They will just want more and more as you give.
They have what is considered a decent income, let it be if they cant deal with it point them to some help/guidance and leave it be. they chose their professions not you.

RachelPanda 01-10-2010 01:28 PM

I help out with family if they really need it and if I'm able to at the moment.

xxweekxx 01-10-2010 01:46 PM

yea i admit one of em is bad with money..combined she makes $250k with her husband b4 taxes.. but they are bouncing checks left and right..

why?

cuz they have a house they paid 700k for, mortgage alone is $3k+ a month, taxes another $1k... their kids go to special school $2k/month, that there already is $6k/month.. then add in babysitter at $2k/month, $8k/month..

then add insurance,tv,electricity, car note, food, and you can see how they are poor.lol

but ya i got a cousin who only makes like 30k/yr and is always needing money for incidentals like car problems, etc.. plus he complains daily about how his job sucks, and i can see how..

but honestly he isnt the sharpest tool in the shed.. when i was balling even harder he didnt bother to join me, all he did was beg me for money and id give him $1-2k/week and he'd blow it on clothes, watches, shoes, etc.. oh well

xxweekxx 01-10-2010 01:55 PM

i dont see how many americans buy a big ass house they cant afford...

honestly, if i were to buy a house with my wife, id make sure ONE persons salary could pay the mortgage...

if i were to buy it myself, id make sure my savings can pay for the mortgage for 5 years.. i know it sounds extreme but if you think about it, mortgage/rent is your highest bill, and the reason people have to work hard as hell, etc..

so the way i see it now, if i were to buy say a 500k house, put 100k down, so $400k mortgage, lets assume is $3,000 a month..

i would need to have at least $36X5 ~ so about $200k or so in savings....
