production and post production is not the same and you would need 2 of the exact same cameras (one representing the right eye and one representing the left eye). Most people would want it in HD, and thus it ads up gear wise.
I shoot on Panasonic HVX-200, Sony Z1U and other SD cams. If I would have to buy another Z1U and another HVX then it becomes expensive and to be honest I have not looked into the post production process but I have a feeling special software is needed there as well.

Neo3D: How Does it Work?
The enabling technology for Neo3D is a CineForm stereo MOV file that contains temporally-synchronized Left and Right eyes, each at full quality 1920×1080 HD spatial resolution. CineForm stereo files are created such that all QuickTime applications, including Final Cut Pro, interpret the stereo files as if they were traditional 2D HD files, yet Neo3D includes dynamic controls to define playback of the file as left channel, right channel or full 3D presentation. In 3D presentation mode, both left and right eyes are blended into a single 1920×1080 HD frame size supported by Final Cut Pro.
