Haggle on watch price?

Anyone have good tips for haggling on a watch price? I suppose you would get a better deal at an independent jeweler than a chain store?

I'm looking at watches in the 600 - 900 ballpark, would like to get a 30% discount or more if possible. Standard jewelry markup is about 50%, right? Is that the same for watches?

I've thought about going the ebay route, but I'm leery of getting ripped off with a fake. Any experiences with ebay?

What's the best deal you've gotten on a watch?

yeah, that's what I figured.

And it seems like most watch brands don't honor the warranty unless it's bought at an authorized dealer. Overstock.com has a nice one for a good price, but there wouldn't be a warranty on it.

I paid full price, ya I got ripped off, fuck it.

Give it a try, find a 900 watch, lay 600 on the counter and tell him thats all you can pay...its worth a shot!

I've seen someone haggle on a 500 dollar watch before. He only got 10% off, but this was back when the economy was better. He also didn't haggle much, he just asked for their "best price".

By chain store I meant something like a Jared, or Kay. Wasn't really thinking department stores.

I have bought tons of OLD watches on ebay without problems, but I dont think I would ever buy a new one.
