Open New Window for Sponsors or Open in the Same Window?

I am curious. I see that about 1/2 adult link directories and index's have either the link going to whatever they are selling, either opening up in a new window, or opening in the same window.

I heard somewhere before that the surfer is less likely to surf a popup window, rather than going straight to the site in the same browser window...

say your promoting playboy plus on your website. when the surfer clicks the ad, do you have him going to playboy plus in the same browser window, or when he or she clicks, do you have another window opening up for them?

open in the same window. your goal is to make a sale, not have the surfer close the new window/tab. Nudge them a bit and let the sponsor sale them or have them click back

My goal is to increase the analytic metrics of my site, while sending visitors to a sponsor site.

internal pages ="_self" external pages/sites ="_blank"

If you are trying to keep them on your own site and the link is purely for traffic then I would use "blank" If you are sending traffic to an affiliate then open it in the same window :2 cents:

have you tried both JD? I assume your conversions are better with opening _blank? Thanks for the feedback, just curious about what others are doing. :thumbsup

yeah i've tried both. you get 2-3x AT LEAST more clicks on your site if you do _blank on outbound links and _self for internal
