depends what you call work I guess... I process HDV on the road so what I use might be a bit over kill for you. for me it's a 'sager'. I have the x58 chipset with the i7 975, 12 GB ram and an electronic c drive...

But if you just asking for brand so I would say Sony!!! if you want a little bit cheaper HP is cheaper but still good (not Compaq!!!).
