Virgin Mobile.. Is there a dial # for checking the balance?
 

My sister thought it'd be a bright idea to buy a prepaid phone for my mother

Verizon is cheaper and from the looks of things doesn't have 1/10th the pitfalls and money traps... I set one up for my father, Verizon prepaid, they let your roll minutes without forcing a monthly purchase and the minutes cost alot less, and you get what has to be a superior network.

But from the looks of things.. virgin mobile probably wouldn't refund you if you found your phone to be hand crafted using dog shit and toilet water.
