Gigabytes converted to mbps ???

Hi, my site goes through around 200 gig per day average, what does that convert to in MBPS, anyone know??

Mbps is a capacity.
Gigabytes is a transfer amount.

They do not convert exactly.
You will only get a best approximation of the RANGE in Mbps (capacity) that you need.

200GB * 31 = 6200GB per month
=
30Mbps to 42Mbps 95th percentile bandwidth usage.

The amount of GB's you can get out of 1Mbps varies wildly depending on that specific servers traffic patterns. The more peaks and valleys in traffic you have, the LESS GB's per 1Mbps you will get.
The flatter your traffic, the more GB's per 1Mbps you will get.

So what server deal would I need? i've seen deals of 10mbps servers for $99 per month etc. Ball park is that how much bandwidth 200 per day equates too or is it a 5 mbps server?

Just googled it and in real world usage 1mbps is roughly 200 gig per month, so i'm using 200 per day which is 6000 per month which is roughly 30 mbps, I think that sound right...

1 (megabits / second) = 321.013651 gigabytes / month

that 321 gigs is just a estimate , hosting gurus can help you better based on what you are serving up and if there are spikes and so on...

but the 321 is a estimate

Juicy D. Links 12-23-2009 09:44 PM

but like Tidalwave posted one is capacity and one is transfer

fatfoo 12-23-2009 09:49 PM

1,000 mb = 1 gig

sandman! 12-23-2009 10:23 PM

you need a server with 40 megs included.

Yes 320 ish is the figure, but around 200 mbps is the real world figure which more reflects the peaks and troughs. Sandman mentioned I need a 40mbps server which seems about right, a little more than I would need but some room to move. Thanks guys...:thumbsup
