There is a big difference between an actor sitting in a sound booth doing just voice over that will be matched to a CGI and in an actor putting on a suit that tracks their motion and emotion which is later mapped to a CGI which is the case here.

If you can grasp that you will then understand that the characters in AVATAR are based on real people.

1. They look nothing like the real people, even if what you're saying is true.
2. Show me an article stating they dressed up in the suits and moved for the camera, as opposed to it being a fully functional cgi.

The actors were filmed with cameras in those special suits with all the dots on them that capture their shape and movements.

Most if not all of the movement of the characters in the movie was actually done by real live actors on a set.

Then the film is put into a program that allows them to morph it into it's current state.

If you saw the making of avatar you'd see the actors actually acted out the parts in body suits. So yes it's them.

Actually they weren't in body suits. From the making of the movie, it was just their movements that were traced. The avatars really were purely computer generated.
