$300 video?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=-dadP...layer_embedded

Supposedly done for $300, and resulted in the guy getting a $30 million Hollywood contract.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8417789.stm

Pretty nice video, but don't see how it is possible to do for $300 unless he is using pirated software.

Bird 12-18-2009 03:14 PM

yeah, no way anyone did that for 300 bucks

fmltube 12-18-2009 03:31 PM

This is the latest trick in mainstream by spending some money on a film and then saying it cost way less with the hope of attracting Hollywood execs. "If he could do that for $300, imagine what he could do for $30M".

Plus I also find the uploaded Thursday night and had mailbox filled with offers by Monday morning bullshit as well. No way any exec in his right mind would offer $30M before ever meeting the guy and verifying the exaggerated low costs.

Well of course shit like that doesn't factor into production costs of items he already owned. If he owns the software, he's not going to tally the "cost" of the production by adding in all the costs of each piece of software he used. Just like he isn't going to count his own man hours, at the hourly rate for cgi like that.

You think a production company charges an extra $10,000 for a NEW software license for every single production they make. Of course not. What sense does that make? Just like I don't tact on $1,700 to each invoice for software licensing. That's retarded.

Come on baddog, even you should be a little more wiser than that.

I wonder who baddog thinks he is calling everybody stupid and what not , in a few years he'll be dead and we won't have to worry about his stupid comments. :2 cents:

Point taken, you think it can be done for $300?

You said, "Plus I also find the uploaded Thursday night and had mailbox filled with offers by Monday morning bullshit as well. No way any exec in his right mind would offer $30M before ever meeting the guy and verifying the exaggerated low costs."

The video was uploaded November 3. What makes you think anyone is implying this was done over night? You don't think a month and a half is time enough to meet someone?

Yeah, why not. If he had the camera on hand, and the computer setup to do it. $300 is more than enough. All the "actors" in the film could just be friends and family.

What production costs would there be.. Other than wasting a ton of his time to do it (although, in the end we see it wasn't a waste) :2 cents:

Because I read another article where the guy said he uploaded it on a Thursday night and by Monday morning, his mailbox was filled with offers. That is the time frame I was referring to.

Loch 12-18-2009 03:55 PM

that can easily be done for 300 bucks, assuming he is not factoring the cost of hardware.
but why would he if he already had all of that.

It would take a LOT of planning, getting a few university’s to put up posters for casts etc etc....but yeah 300 does not sound weird to me at all.

This clip is 99% computer skills

fmltube 12-18-2009 03:55 PM

From the fucking article

"I uploaded (Panic Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios," he told the BBC's Latin American service BBC Mundo.

With that video why would that be so odd?
Highly competitive business an who ever gets there first will most likely land a deal

Doesn't mean he was getting offers on Monday, just praises that probably lead to the offer later on.

Costs in Uruguay are much lower than in the states so it's technically possible, especially if you don't pay actors (which he probably didn't, its a youtube video).

Then all the effects he did in post. He obviously didn't count in camera/lenses/software costs. Video is very impressive though.

But this is an exaggeration:
"If some director from some country can achieve this just uploading a video to YouTube, it obviously means that anyone could do it"

The other article on the net claimed the dude had offers on Monday and that is not the way Hollywood works. Its all a set up. Claiming mailbox filled from Hollywood studios (how small is his email box?) itching to give this guy millions without having any name recognition? If it was Kevin Smith, Cameron, Lucas, etc.... I can see the blind offer. For a guy who has done nothing yet, no way OFFERS poored in, more like interest.

Link to said article?

american pervert 12-18-2009 04:07 PM

when people do production they never add in cost of equipment unless they rent it.

WebairMetz 12-18-2009 04:08 PM

its a cool video nonetheless. a total bomb in the boxoffice I predict

Does it matter?
If leads lead to offers

And yes people have been known to be offered huge amounts on the spot from hollywood in the past, im not saying by email.

Im just wondering why you almost sound like you hate the guy and are hellbent on proving it wrong lol

You seem pissed about it and arrogant, why? :)

Agreed. He wasn't paying $10mil to have some big named actor in it..

AdPatron 12-18-2009 04:30 PM

No proof, no $30mil deal.

WDchris 12-18-2009 05:55 PM

interesting.

DBS.US 12-18-2009 10:56 PM

It's called marketing:2 cents: It makes people talk about the movie.

AdPatron 12-19-2009 01:28 AM

It was a stupid film too. I could fart that.

VladS 12-19-2009 03:56 AM

I am not in that business, i do not know the ins and outs, so i can only make a wild guess. I'd say it is possible, if you don't calculate the software costs, your own work, time, etc... but in the end, it is surely just another successful from what it seems marketing story/action. It has made the news... :)
