Visa cuts off 100 merchants for scamming consumers

When are shady porn programs next?

The trick is a marketing technique called "negative option," where customers must say they don't want to join a so-called club or receive additional materials in the future. The details of the ongoing charges are often in small print or can only be found by following a hyperlink. There's frequently a series of pre-checked boxes that most consumers zoom past as they order. Skipping those boxes is key, because leaving them checked ostensibly giving the companies permission to keep charging the card.

NICE less competition.

As I've said before. Anyone who knows of a company or program doing this should notify Visa's fraud department immediately.

Fuck that shit, clean up this industry. :2 cents:

I've been reading folks saying that exact same thing since the beginning of the internet. :1orglaugh So far nothing interesting has happened.

Don't forget the surfer still puts food on your table. Fuck them over, lose their trust and you will then realize how insignificant of a problem free content and freeloaders can really be.

who said anything about fucking them over?

i said FUCK THEM, as in who cares about them.

in your theory how is it different then anything today?

how is it insignificant when the average n00b surfer already knows how to download mp3s and porn?

we are in changing times my friends globally companies have started to corner each and every market. with unlimited bank and govt support there is nothing to stop them. as you sit here and think these merchants are affecting your business the corps of the world are raping your "surfer" left right and center. learn where to point the finger for once.

i pray to god some of these guys make it to the top. regulations are only for the small guy never forget that.

How could you not care about the surfer? :1orglaugh If you fuck them over and they NEVER buy porn online again, then guess what, you've succeeded in damaging this industry. The post you quoted was about "cleaning this industry up". Create a thread on a mainstream forum, you will shocked at how many people have been fucked over in the past and refuse to ever buy porn online again.

I'm saying watch how insignificant it can be when you lose the trust of the few people that still buy porn regardless of file sharing and free loading. Yeah, it sucks that free loaders exist, but that doesn't mean you become ruthless and take it out on the entire market. That's like the music industry saying, "fuck, everyone is downloading music, quick, lets punch everyone who buys a CD in the nose and add a tax". :1orglaugh

You can add pre-checked cross sales, or you can just add trial memberships that automatically rebill at full price unless canceled. Yeah, you will probably do well for yourself, but it will hurt this industry. You think once that surfer gets royally fucked he's ever going to buy porn online again?

I agree, that times are changing. This industry has declined, yes partly due to file sharing and tubes, but also because of all the shady practices that have been doing on for decades in this industry. It's finally caught up with us.

Why would you seek payback on a non-freeloading surfer who is actually using his credit card to pay for something?

'Too many surfers download free content, lets punish the ones who are actually paying and deter them from ever paying again in the future!' - Something seems flawed there.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 12-18-2009 12:24 AM

couple mainstream offers i was promoting got yanked over this. shame because the offers converted like hotcakes. the merchants just got too fucking greedy.

Nobody fucks over the consumer like mainstream. Adult is not even a close second.

This is true, unfortunately for us 'online porn subscriptions' get lumped together. The average consumer doesn't say, "well this one is different".

hmm they should have added "aka prechecked cross-sales" or " how almost every porn site on the planet works "

Yes. The only thing that changes is there are more outlets to say change is coming.

It's usually the guys who barley get by who are holding onto the dreams of change, by the people doing better than them falling.

rowan 12-18-2009 03:03 AM

A whole 100 merchants. That's about the relative size of an ant fart, but I guess it's a start. :D

What I was thinking. Try closing that many every day and we will see an improvement.

Umm... These surfers are paying pieces of shit. And they are going to go free if this shit doesn't stop.

Agent 488 12-18-2009 08:53 AM

i agree. adult is mother theresa compared to what is going on in mainstream billing right now. gets a bit old when people go on and on about how bad adult is.

yeah that sucks. VISA and a host of others have put up a series of burning hoops for our industry to jump through and for the most part we have complied completely even when it pissed us off........ we're honest, but we keep getting a black eye while mainstream raw dogs surfers in the ass and gets praise

With the way companies are hammering cards left and right, only time will tell. Say what you want but I bet some strict regulations enter adult next year with billing practices. :2 cents:

fuzebox 12-18-2009 09:34 AM

The xsale fraud is so small compared to the herbal and supplement continuity programs, most the companies that people on this board think are the problem aren't big enough to be on Visa's radar :2 cents:

WRONG people will always buy a product that is in demand or they want to buy. people do not stop buying porn because of "billing" mainstream has 20000000x billing and people signup anyway.

cell phone companies and banks fuck people over with anykind of fee they can get away with. do you see people stop using a bank or a cell phone? hell no

products in adult just suck. everyone is stuck in the stone age.

music still sells and will always sell. the best artists with the best products will always sell. people are immune to "regular" things these days. everyone wants the best of the best. just because you do not deliver it dont blame people with their billing techniques.

yes of course they will, if i deliver a better product and market it properly people will buy it.

no the industry has declined because the few smart fuckers are cornering the market. you people sit around and whine all day why these people are out constantly improving their brand. you people in adult are idiots and we laugh at you.

you people do the same shit marketing the same old way for the past decade then scratch your head and look at someone to point the finger at.

look at TGPs for example half these idiots havent updated their layout in years. the surfer wants to be entertained. they want things to be interactive. if 10000000x people are offering the same product and you deliver it the same way why the fuck would you expect it to sell?

Been saying it for far too long. People choose not to pay because it's a better deal not to pay. Until we turn that around they will continue not to pay.
