Non-Christians: Are you offended by the use of the expression "Christmas Time"?

since it is what it is - Christmas Time

i am not religious but call it like that and never thought about it. but i see more and more people using "Holidays" instead - which to me always sounds like "vacation".

help a poor euro trash guy out here... :winkwink:

CosmicTang 12-16-2009 11:39 AM

Not offended in the least.

viki 12-16-2009 11:41 AM

nope, not offended at all.

BradM 12-16-2009 11:43 AM

No. In fact I find religious people get offended when you DON'T call it Christmas. :)

nico-t 12-16-2009 11:46 AM

i call it christmas with love: An imaginary fat guy with flying reindeers stuffing presents through chimneys - a dumb fantasy story just like the roots of the religion itself! Irony at its best.

PR_Glen 12-16-2009 11:48 AM

pc morons sucking the culture out of our own countries it seems...

I'm not christian either but I don't find someone greeting me with a merry christmas offensive in the least... its a pleasant greeting no matter what you believe... In fact, i find the pc version to be very cold and distant if anything. Say what you want, just don't call me an asshole i say... ;)

Spot on.

Christ was not born in December, it's the old pagan festival of mid winter and the celebration of the Roman God Mithras. Who was also born of a virgin and came back from the dead.

You learn all sorts of crap when you can't do anything but watch midday TV. :1orglaugh

ShellyCrash 12-16-2009 11:49 AM

I celebrate Christmas but I am not religious. I use the word "holidays" more and more not to shit on Christians but to not exclude my Jewish friends.

O MARINA 12-16-2009 11:50 AM

Not offended

having grown up in a christian society i find it weird to call it Holidays - even when i don't care about the religious part.

and i hate political correctness - sometimes :winkwink:

phasic 12-16-2009 11:51 AM

Im not offended by "christmas time" at all, but working in customer service and dealing with all different types of religions its become habit to say "happy holidays".

Quentin 12-16-2009 12:30 PM

I'm not at all offended by Christmas greetings, lingo, imagery, etc., religious or otherwise.

The Christmas songs, on the other hand.... after several decades of jingling, sleighing and Jack Frost nipping at noses, I'm pretty well done with that crap. There's precisely one Christmas music selection I can still stomach at all, and this is it.

There's some damn fine guitar playing on there, and (more importantly) no vocals at all. :winkwink:

Christmas is indeed originally "Julfest", celebrated by germanic tribes at least since the 4th century

Mr Gump 12-16-2009 08:54 PM

I hate religions and all that bullshit, but I love Christmas, its a great time to get drunk with people, everyone is looking forward to getting drunk, should be called Drunksmas or Binge and Purge month.

Lycanthrope 12-16-2009 09:39 PM

Happy Festivus!

In American English a vacation from work or your job is not referred to as being on "holiday" like it is in British or European English, so there is no confusion here. I am not really religious but I enjoy Christmas since it means spending time with my family. Many people say The Holidays nowadays because it applies in a generic way to Christmas, Hanakkuh, the New Year and the end of year shopping season for a modern multi-ethnic society.

SleazyDream 12-16-2009 10:43 PM

i just think it's in refernce to chris cringle - aka santa clause!!!!!!!!!!!

PornMD 12-16-2009 11:24 PM

I'm not religious but grew up in a religious family so still celebrate Christmas. I do in general try to say holidays instead of Christmas when talking to people I don't know. I mean at this point Christmas itself is barely about Christ anymore anyways.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 12-16-2009 11:26 PM

christmas isn't a religious holiday anyways, it'd a consumer holiday. i love consumerism...

zurc-net 12-16-2009 11:41 PM

I am a atheist and don't mind each holiday being called what it is, Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, etc.

I really don't get the whole holidays bull shit anyways, seems everyone in this country is so afraid of hurting someones feelings... or their pocket for that matter over some over sensitive maniac with nothing better to do with their lives.

When its Hannukah, say fucking happy hannukah to those that celebrate it, when its Christmas, say Merry fucking Christmas, when its Kwanza say Happy fucking Kwanza, then move on with your life.

Although I did tell someone Merry Christmas today and got the stink eye along with "I am Jewish, but thanks". His wife had a cross around her neck so I just assumed... stupid me. It was like a Larry David moment trying to explain why I said Merry Christmas, but I gave up, laughed and apologized. They left laughing too, so hopefully he was not too butt hurt.

God political correctness has gone crazy this decade. I am finding myself more and more adopting the politically incorrect stance as a protest to a western world gone mad.

People who get offended at things are all the same, if they cant find something to get offended by then they will make something up. If you are offended by people calling it christmas then you need to harden the fuck up and get your head out of your ass ... there are more important things in life than getting into a tantrum over a word that happens to have religious links. Geez

tigermtb 12-16-2009 11:58 PM

Asking a bunch of porn people if they are offended by most anything is going to have a skewed result. LOL.

Also, not offended.

Zorgman 12-17-2009 12:22 AM

Nope. Not offended. It's a great time to get to see the family all in 1 location and give presents to each other that they don't really want or need. :)

Waddymelon 12-17-2009 01:10 AM

You'd have to be pretty shallow to get offended over something that someone says to you as a nice gesture, whatever it is.

I mean they could have just said fuck you instead.

This is the road I've been down for ages. :2 cents:

I ahve no real sexual discrimination or racial prejudice, but love dropping "fag" and "niggger" into every other sentence just to stir the shit...

dalila 12-17-2009 02:23 AM

I'm an atheist, but i consider myself a christian culturally as i have grown up in a mostly Christian culture, so i celebrate holidays like Christmas , Easter etc and I'm definitely not offended when the word "Christmas" is used.

Agent 488 12-17-2009 02:27 AM

look into who really goes through legal and bureaucratic means to kill xmas. you may be surprised.

the real magoo 12-17-2009 04:51 AM

Who da fuck is "Christ"? I thought we were celebrating Chris?
