Anyone here using OpenX as their personal ad server?
Anyone using OpenX to serve theirowns ads on their own sites across their network?
Do you use the "community download" or "community hosted" version? I've installed and am looking through the download version, which looks to me like I have fucked up somewhere. I can't generate any invocation codes. I'm also waiting on my application to the hosted solution to compare with my locally installed ad server to see if I did in fact do something wrong during setup. Are the 2 versions the same? Is there a better option for free ad server software? |
I use the downloaded to my own server if I can remember I belive the banners can NOT have any spaces or _ - try to use like banner.jpg becasue I had that same problem

I don't have any _- in any of my banners. Mine are all named like 160x600banner1.jpg and so forth. I think I may have fooked up the installation somehow. |
My ad zones sometimes never show up at all. It sucks.

Would seem to make sense to me if these people were experiencing this problem suddennly on the hosted end of things. but for this problem to magically start popping up on the downloaded selfhosted version suddenly all at once seems kind of strange! |
Im using the hosted version, The problem has been around about a week or so, and Open x has yet to say anything about the issue.

Just for clarification. CHMOD -R +a+w is the same as CHMOD 733, no? I did see some stuff on the final screenof the installation appear to not install correctly, yet the installation went along. THinking I might have to reinstall. |
I've been using it for a while, seems to work fine but it can be a resource hog if you don't optimize it and pull over 100k impressions a day.
|
I use it for about 500k impressions a day on the same server as I have a few of my sites and couldn't be happier.
|
I have my own install, but on a client's server had the same issue with invocation codes. Unfortunately I can not detail the fix for you because their techs fixed it.

Curious what's out there for alternatives to OpenX, any ideas in that department? Just looking for a good free/cheap script, not looking to dump a fat load of cash on an IAB approved third party setup or anything like that. Just want a nice smooth system for handling all my adzones on my own sites.

Right now I'm looking at OpenX and SmartSpots (from the guys that do SmartThumbs & SmartTube). SmartSpots is only $50 which is a reasonable price. But I'm not sure if it offers any benefits over OpenX (which is Free). |

We use OpenX for our banner serving needs. We have an install because the free hosted version doesn't allow the impression counts we need and I wasn't really keen on trusting our ad serving to an unknown host. I'm not a techy so I didn't do our install but I could take a look at your ad server and see if there's anything missing from what I use in my interface. Feel free to hit me up on ICQ if you like.

I use openx download version works great never tried the hosted version. Try a fresh install usually works great from the start.
After it is installed setup advertiser -> one campaign -> add one banner -> test code If you have cpanel/fantastico it has one click install of openx. I don't think there is a better free ad solution out there. Maybe a more simple one but not better overall. BTW openx can be a resource hog if you don't set it up correctly and you are using it on a large site. |
Looks like its fixed! Its been working for the past three hours or so.
