Danica Patrick will race NASCAR in 2010

Danica Patrick has officially announced that she will compete in a limited schedule next season in
the NASCAR Nationwide series driving for JR Motorsports which is owned by Dale Earndhardt Jr.
and Rick Hendrick and will be sponsored by GoDaddy.com

https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/news/...e=%2B&app_hdr=

She won't even come close to being competitive but I'm sure she will create a lot of good action. :upsidedow

I'd hit it open-wheel, or nascar style.

TurboAngel 12-08-2009 11:42 AM

There are no open wheel cars in NASCAR. She'll be driving a Stock Car.

Doh! I know that, I've been a race fan since like 1970, hehe. Just saying, wherever she goes she'll be a little hottie. I was hoping she'd go full NASCAR this coming season and REALLY blow up the sport, but I'll take a limited run over nothing. She's a good solid driver, just give her some phonebooks to sit on, heh.

I swear you initially posted a question as to what style car she would be driving and then changed it while I was posting my answer :helpme :winkwink:

Glad to see you're a fan. Very few open wheel drivers have come over to NASCAR and had much success. It's a very different type of racing and takes a lot of experience to get the hang of it. Something she won't even come close to doing with driving a limited schedule AND driving a full schedule in the open wheel car.

For now she will give the female fans someone to cheer for and bring a lot of exposure to NASCAR.

My prediction is she will give it a try, find out it's way more than she bargained for and stick to open wheel.

That's nice :)

I had edited my post, but only because I'd typed "I'd it it" and had to add the 'h'. Keep doing that today for some reason.

I think kind of the opposite. She seems to me to be a natural for nascar even though it might go against the grain of common thinking. I know she started in go carts and all open wheel stuff, but she strikes me as a natural for nascar style. Be fun to watch anyway.

You usually graduate from Nascar to open Wheel formala cars. Why is she down grading.

last ive seen everyone is coming from open wheel to nascar. such as tony stewart. juan pablo, andretti. thats at least three and now danica. they say nascar is more of a challenge.

This is true and you can add Patrick Carpentier, Scott Speed, Sam hornish Jr. Paul tracy, Christian Fittipaldi, Max Papis,Jimmy Vasser, Scott Pruett, Dario Franchitti, and Jacques Villeneuve to that list along with several others having tried with little success.

Racing in the NASCAR series isn't easy.

Yeah, you would think it would be the other way.
I used to race spec trucks, it's really fun but I would think making right turns too would be funner and more challenging.
In my younger days. :1orglaugh

she's a mediocre driver, at best. in fact, she might even be a shitty driver. has she won one irl race in all these years?

there's a reason no f1 team wants her and it's not just because she dangerous in an open-wheel car.

The NASCAR series races twice a year on road courses. Once at Sonoma Cali and once at Watkins Glen. All the open wheel guys come in to race as " ringers " and still can't beat the NASCAR regulars at turning left AND right.

I believe she won one race in Japan and that was on fuel milage strategy.

Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti tried a few years in NASCAR and was mid pack at best. He went back to open wheel IRL and won the championship his first year back.

Danica won't even come close to winning a race.

Just give her whatever Jeff Gordon sits on. ;)

Nice to see some estrogen added to the sport.

:1orglaugh how short is that guy?

Zayne E. 12-08-2009 01:15 PM

As Richard Petty said, she will fail. Why? Because every woman who has tried NASCAR has failed...according to RP.

Personally, I am routing against her. I think she's a gimmick in IRL and will be a gimmick in NASCAR. She even signed with the biggest side-show the sport has ever seen...Dale Jr. Attention whores...that's all they are :2 cents:

She'll be doing double duty in both Nationwide and Indy car..thats a tough road to hoe for anyone of any experience and will create a rather steep and extended learning curve as opposed to just picking one car type and sticking with it week in and week out. That being said she will have top level equipment in Nationwide with Hendrick Motorsports supplying the engines and chassis for JR Motorsports so thats a plus but it will leave most of her success in her ability to perform as a driver. I wish her well and she should be able to run middle of the pack in many races at the Nationwide level...Sprint Cup? well, thats a different story and only time will tell if she ever makes it that far.

Certainly many of the open wheel drivers have had limited success in NASCAR Sprint Cup but Juan Pablo Montoya is leading the way and should be a threat for the cup next year, probably the next best is Sam Hornish Jr. who has been performing at a top 10 -15 level most of last year has just had a bit of bad luck being caught up in multiple crashes that took him out of races he was running very well in, I expect him to be running much better overall for the 2010 season.

Well the team she will be driving for is owned by the same guy that Jeff Gordon drives for and there is no doubt she will have the best equipment out there.

It still will come down to driver talent and since she has zero experience in stock cars she will need at least three full years before she even starts to get the hang of it. I say she quits before then. Unless the money is right :winkwink:

When Montoya first came into NASCAR he tried to do things his way and had nothing but problems. Crew Chiefs didn't want to work with his hard headed attitude and he went through a couple. Then he decided to listen to what they were telling him and applying the information on track and he got better. This year he had a chance to win the championship. He's a very talented driver and worked hard to get where he's at.

There is no smooth transition from open wheel to stock cars because almost every aspect is different.

lol that'll work just fine! Booster Seats all around!

I remember one of the first "complaints" about Danica was that she was so tiny, it gave her an advantage. Welp, sounded like tough sh*t whining to me. All that matters is racing good and well and getting the benefits on the track that such a reputation gains you.

The cars all have to meet a minimum weight with the driver inside. Being smaller or bigger doesnt matter. They add weight for smaller drivers and take weight away for bigger drivers.
