Shopping for a new server and need suggestions

I'm looking to get off shared hosting and buy a server to house all my stuff but I don't know what I need.

I have 1 site that gets about 10-14k/day of traffic, burns about 100 gigs a month and runs the germesia script which from what I understand uses up a lot of cpu power.

I also want to add a chatroom to that site and I want the chatroom to be able to handle 100 simultaneous users.

I have another site that burns about 600 gigs a month and is growing and has no scipts on it.

I have a few other small sites that dont burn through much at all.

So how powerful of a server do I need to handle this?
I know 0 about hardware so I can't just build it myself, I'm shopping on ebay and on pricewatch, I just dont know what to look for. I know I want a huge harddrive, but that's about it.

No I'm not looking for a new host.

Thanks for any suggestions

We just bought some dells. take a look at the Dell 1650 with Dual p3 1.26's, go with the stock 256k of ram and a 36 gig HD.

Then pick up 1 gig of ram from Crucial.com. Dell's ram prices are crazy.

You can get out the door with a Dual proc dell for around $1500 or less.

You might also try http://www.eracks.com/ -- I haven't bought from them, but their stuff looks good and the prices are reasonable.

For the record, my servers are Dell Poweredge 500 SC's. They're just turning a year old -- i'm starting to get harassed to extend my warranty.

I second Jamie's suggestion!
I too am on a Dell 1650, same specs, for 6 months or so. kicks ass!

btw is eRacks.com the same as eMachines? I had an emachine once and it wasn't too good, but that was like 3 years ago so maybe theyre better now.

Corporate info is different for each of them, so I would say they're not related.

Use real servers www.supermicro.com

We run 14 servers, Dell and Compaq. I suggest the Dell 2550 dual rack mount box. Look at their refurb stuff you can usually get a good deal with full 3 year onsite hardware warranty.
