So hows Google Caffeine treating you?

Ive been doing some research on some big sites and I see a few of you got hammered by the new Google search algorithm. Hows it been treating the rest of ya?

I notice sites that use heavy directory /keywords/ are brutally affected.

Maybe Hoes.com
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/hoes.com

Ouch

Jdoughs 12-06-2009 12:49 AM

Google Caffeine is only live on one datacenter, so I'm pretty certain it has little to do with hoes.com's alexa from last 10-14 days.

Also, on that one datacenter, its only being used about 50% of the page loads.

Thats whats being reported but do some research, Im pretty sure its on more than one DC right now.

I hope you are right about Hoes.com they are good people hate to see them get screwed.

fatfoo 12-06-2009 12:55 AM

A complete rewrite of Googles search engine technology. It will be 100% live after the 1st of the year. its the biggest change in Google search ever, pretty serious shit. Google it :)

dav3 12-06-2009 01:04 AM

Yeah but Im getting it on other DCs too occasionally, so they are rolling it out.

Not only that but have you guys seen this
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/...-everyone.html

Basically in a nutshell if you search at google and you are not signed in it will give you personal results, so much for anonymous searchers discovering new pages once they have their set stable of sites and search preferences automatically set by Google.

This company needs to die now.

V_RocKs 12-06-2009 02:02 AM

working well for me.

CunningStunt 12-06-2009 02:20 AM

Not seeing much of a change here yet, but then Australia is always the last to get anything.

http://mashable.com/2009/11/10/google-caffeine-soon/ - Matt Cutts video there.

Before and after caffeine results: http://comparegoogle.com/

Forget that, doesn't work.

So how do you stop seeing personalised results?

http://www.comparecaffeine.com/
use "site:yourdomain.com" (and sit down before you do it. The shock might floor you.)

Without caffeine:
Results 1 - 10 of about 475,000 from mydomain.com
With caffeine:
Results 1 - 10 of about 58,200 from mydomain.com

Periodically delete Google's cookies.

bns666 12-06-2009 07:21 AM

i had a huge problem with google rankings in june/july on a site which had 4k uniques from google daily and that dropped to around 2k.

returned back in the last 2 months and now site receives almost 6k from google daily.

Sounds pretty cool

Agent 488 12-06-2009 08:13 AM

one data center 50% of the time until the new year.

didn't see much oif a change. although i think it will index and refresh results quicker to compete with twitter.

burntfilm 12-06-2009 08:17 AM

Some of the personalized search stuff seems limiting on the surface...

WiredGuy 12-06-2009 12:39 PM

I'm not seeing many changes between the two versions yet.

That is true, however I doubt that type of surfer is having a problem at all right now, anyway...

marketsmart 12-06-2009 01:02 PM

the major etailers asked google to wait until after the holliday season to fully implement caffeine..

i dont think caffeine is being used for every other search, but we'll know for sure in 26 more days...

tiger 12-06-2009 01:06 PM

Google is pretty good at correcting problems if there is a dramatic shift for a large group of quality sites.

I would bet that when all is said and done there will be little movement for the quality sites but the junk ones will get hit hard.

CyberHustler 12-06-2009 01:19 PM

:Oh crap

Babaganoosh 12-06-2009 06:30 PM

If shit goes live in its present form I am going to be getting a nice raise in 2010. Some of my sites are showing almost twice as many indexed pages.

vyper88 12-06-2009 06:40 PM

it smashed one of my online stores... fml.

vink 12-06-2009 10:45 PM

I wonder how this is going to effect blogs that use the "all in one seo pack"? My blog traffic is way down. But it's been like that before several times and then comes back.

I agree. One of the last good sites left. Marc is a super smart guy.

I would not count on that. Google needs those spam sites.
They are full with adsense code, which in turn makes google money.
Google has NO interest in removing pointless adsense-spam from their index. :2 cents:

No it didn't.

ITS NOT LIVE YET.

There is ONE datacenter showing results 50% of the time. They will NOT roll out any more until after January begins.

Caffeine has not effected any of you yet.

No changes I can see on any of my sites. Even the site: searches return almost identical results.

Tip #1, build quality sites.

Raf1 12-07-2009 04:23 AM

so far so good for me

That sounds like a bad tip. These sites are dynamically generated sites based on a users location and how they click when they hit the front page. There are thousands of "pages" on each site. These are definitely not quality sites. They are no more than a little spun text and data pulled from a couple of sources and slathered with local ads. Like I said, if this goes live I am in luck. :thumbsup

My "real" sites are showing very little change.

Spidered isn't listed, as you well know. Most likely those are pages that are being shown are because the update is in development and soon to be rolled out, its spidered and indexed chunks of the web it usually wont touch. It's looking for the most amount of data to use in its algo.

Once the update rolls live, most of that fluff will get cleared out. Just like the last 6-7 major updates they have done.
