Most annoying Christmas song..

I vote 'Last Christmas' by Wham only because it gets stuck solidly in my head from the first time I heard it until about February. That Mariah Carey Christmas song has to be a close second because I can't stand her voice.

Yours?

sicone 12-03-2009 06:01 AM

People still listen to wham?

Sarah_Jayne 12-03-2009 06:11 AM

Only at Christmas when every dang store is playing 'Last Christmas' as part of their in store Christmas mix.

BlackCrayon 12-03-2009 06:13 AM

they have to, if they like to hear radio I think. It's also my nr.1 hate song.
I worked 3 years on a christmas market I can't hear that shit anymore  this song makes me angry. Nice thread :thumbsup.

Babaganoosh 12-03-2009 08:24 AM

Jiggle Bells, any version. I'm in complete agreement with the Mariah Carey garbage too. I just heard that crap at the store a couple of days ago.

Sorry but I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas makes me laugh. It's one of the few xmas songs I like.

I wonder what percentage of the Wham royalties that still come through come from that one song. I bet most.

Yeah. I actually just wanted an excuse to mention the song. Pretty much all of the standard christmas songs bug me because by the time christmas is actually here you've already heard them 100's of times but you don't typically hear the hippo song.

I hate just about every Christmas song !!!

The way the radio station play them to death every year doesn't help either. Bah!!

Honez 12-03-2009 12:28 PM

Grandma got run over by a reindeer. It was cute the first time I heard it. 30 years later, it just grates on me. If the reindeer hadn't already run her over years ago, that bitch would be my hood ornament.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me an' Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinking too much eggnog,
And we begged her not to go.
But she forgot her medication,
And she staggered out the door into the snow.

When we found her Christmas morning,
At the scene of the attack
She had hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminating Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me an' Grandpa, we believe.

Now we're all so proud of Grandpa,
He's been taking this so well.
See him in there watching football,
Drinking beer and playing cards with cousin Mel.

It's not Christmas without Grandma,
All the family's dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?
(SEND THEM BACK!!! )

You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me an' Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of fig (ahhhhh!)
And the blue and silver candles,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig.

I've warned all my friends and neighbours,
Better watch out for yourselves.
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Heck, if you go to the planner on Sky plus it plays Christmas songs. There is no avoidance.

Damn you. Now it's stuck in my head

Luckily, the British public aren't really subjected to the Grandma Got Run Over By The Reindeer thing. I always forget how massively overplayed it is back in the States until I go home for the holidays.

By over played, I mean played more than once.

I 100% agree.

I agree RE: Wham. They play it all the time during the holidays though. Trying to avoid it is like trying to avoid Taylor Swift. I like Mariah's voice. She's got a several octave range and loves to show it off. Her song, however, isn't a bad one. Check out the My Chemical Romance version.

My list of most annoying Xmas songs are, not in any particular order:

(1) Step into Christmas - Elton John
(2) BLue Christmas - Elvis Presley
(3) Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Barbara Mandel
(4) That horrid Xmas song by Neil Diamond
(5) Gram-ma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
(6) So This Is Christmas - John Lennon
(7) Jingle Bell Rock

Riffhard 12-03-2009 06:48 PM

HandballJim 12-03-2009 07:28 PM

by the time Christmas eve comes...all of them. It seems every station they listen to at my work place they play a sick amount of christmas songs over and over again. I would not mind if they played more of a selection of different songs and artists. :2 cents:

jtrade 12-03-2009 09:07 PM

yeah not a fan of her either.. her voice ;)

White Christmas is Bing Crosby. I can see how you could confuse him with George Micheal.

NetHorse 12-04-2009 03:08 AM

All of them, flalalalablahblahblah. They just remind me I have to buy fucking gifts and that I'm cheap.
