Do you renew old useless domains just because they have age?

I have some domains with 6+ years on them that I don't want anymore, some have been taken offline a while ago and just sit in my domains list.. some I can't even think of what to use them for.

But hell it's only $9 it's probably worth it to just throw something up on them really quick and take advantage of their age?

Does the content need to match what was on them years ago to benefit?

Jdoughs 12-01-2009 11:11 AM

Yes I do. But I don't let them go empty or to a park page at anytime, always at least leave a '1 page wonder' on it.

Park all your un-used domains with www.pimproll.com

We just added a bulk importer and smart scan technology.

You can also hand tweak the meta and titles on each domain.

No ..I just let them drop if not sold or if i dont have a use for them any longer.

bobby666 12-01-2009 11:24 AM

Doctor Feelgood 12-01-2009 11:42 AM

i have one useless 6 year old .com with pr2 for sale. $120 obo

jtrade 12-01-2009 11:45 AM

I always keep my domains because as soon as you let them expire you need them and someone else just stole it from you.. bahh!

TheLegacy 12-01-2009 12:24 PM

So are you saying that there is absolutely no way to use that domain(s) to your advantage to make money now?

After Shock Media 12-01-2009 12:29 PM

I just dropped a whole shit load - even some that made a couple dollars a year.
Had no desire to try to sell them. Did not want the hassle that they are lame or whatever. They were what they were. Often to very specialized (micro niched) or assorted keyword domains. Some going back to the late 90's.

Guess I was nuts. Just got tired of paying so damn much per year.

Jdoughs 12-01-2009 12:33 PM

You should push that shit to my account.

I'll gladly sort through the 6 yr old ones and keep a few.

Yeah, no kidding. I've even offered some for free that were expiring and not needed anymore.

The majority of mine I keep, I only register what I'm going to use or sell.

Babaganoosh 12-01-2009 01:26 PM

I rarely let a domain expire. I have tons that are dead and have been for years but I can't stand the thought of letting some domain whore snatch them up.

IntenseLloyd 12-01-2009 02:08 PM

Old domains have some value (assuming they are even remotely good.) Toss a WP install on them and write a couple posts. At least let Google know they are there.

JD 12-01-2009 02:37 PM

yeah but only some of them i keep. i let a ton of domains drop this year

CunningStunt 12-01-2009 02:38 PM

I let over 100 go this year.

If I hadn't fucked them up by some blackhat BS or other over the years, I'd have kept hold of them. Now they are worthless and rank nowhere.

Meh, they were always expendable, they did the business in the day :)

Cool i need to start doing that.

I rarely let any go. I try not to reg/buy domains that wont hold value. Generic is the way to go.

After Shock Media 12-01-2009 03:16 PM

I just had a hard time keeping them and burning money each year.
I keep my good ones or ones that I know have value beyond the reg. fee.

I also do a lot locally for instance and ended up with a lot of local domains that only make real sense to someone that lives around me or does that sort of thing.

Then another example. I ended up with all sorts of domain names based after one of the HBO sex shows. Each time the show aired I would make a few bucks. Thought it was a good idea but well long term it was not. The number of domains versus the upkeep did not make the profit worthwhile so I dropped them. If someone wants them they let just a short while ago and are probably available via many domain services.

I also killed a few I bought under the influence or something. Those times when you think you scored a killer name until morning and you realize that you spelled it all wrong.

fatfoo 12-01-2009 03:17 PM

The older the domains are - the more valuable they are. Old age also helps domains get a higher PR on google. You can renew them... wait till they get older. Sell them...

SPACE GLIDER 12-01-2009 03:19 PM

Yes, I do

V_RocKs 12-02-2009 08:45 AM

If I think I can get it to give me $8 in a year, I keep it...
