Hosting companies - dedicated server needed

Hello, I'm looking for a dedicated hosting for a client.

Currently he has one membership site (mostly FLV videos 300-700MB) using:

* disk space used: 34 GB
* average monthly traffic: 2000 GB
* yearly port traffic chart is attached.
http://design4porn.com/tmp/year.png

Additionally to his traffic, he plans to do 4 x one hour live shows a month. So it's 240 minutes / 300kbps stream / 250 users (live stream to server, then Flash stream is encoded and forwarded to users). According to my calculations this will consume additionally:

* 128.75 GB a month
* 73.24 mbps port at peaks (all users)

I suppose he might need at least Intel 2Ghz CPU, 2 GB RAM to run also a Flash streaming server like Red5 on the same machine. If your recommendations differ, please advice.
He needs managed hosting, however I can do simple stuff myself (changing Apache/PHP/MySQL settings). Apart from the live stream and Flash encoding, software requirements are pretty simple.

So please provide your offer:

* hardware config
* software config (please no windows servers)
* what traffic / port (metered, unmetered, 95% percentile) you recommend / offer
* how much is overage GB on metered servers
* price per month / setup fee (if any)
* what kind of control panel is included
* is Red5 installation included in setup?
* if you offer Wowza, how much is monthly lease?
* how many IPs are included / how much is additinal IP?

You wouldnt be doing yourself any real justice if you don't talk to the people at techiemedia.com These guys are simply amazing, I have been with several other hosts and when it comes to uptime and support there really is nothing close.:2 cents::2 cents:

Hello Design4porn

I would recommend a solution which has the following attributes:

- Quad Core Xeon 2.4Ghz
- 8G RAM
- Dual 15K RPM SAS Drives, RAID 1
- ProxyPass (or equivalent) for members area protection
- Wowza Media Server 2
- Fully Managed Support, Monitoring
- Monthly Backup
- Competitive overage rates for bursting
- JW Player commercial license

When you use Wowza (or Red5, etc) for streaming movies the disks are working harder due to all of the random access, ie the ability for surfers to jump around to different play points. I would also recommend that you stay away from most control panels, especially those that add server overhead. Having a fully managed host which can help you successfully configure, troubleshoot and pull together all of these items will pay dividends in the long run.

I would be happy to discuss this further and create a custom quote. Please feel free to email me and reference this thread and I will send over a solutions quote.

Sincerely,

Brad Mitchell
