Has anyone hear ever eaten Buffalo meat?
If so...how would you compare it to good beef?
Before someone corrects me...I am aware "hear". |

i ate ox tails once and it was great, just like beef but a little stronger taste but in a very good way
Grew up within 3 miles of a buffalo farm so yup. Its good. Leaner than beef in my experience. Its been a long time since I ate it though so going back 16 or 17 years.

Werent you in the Army during the Indian Wars? Should have eaten plenty of buffalo.
steak is steak and buffalo isn't steak. tried it a couple times and it just isn't steak. gimme a high end steak and no way does it come close.
Yep, Bison a.k.a Buffalo meat is one of the leanest and healthiest meats on the planet.
it's ok. i prefer beef though
lots of it here in Manitoba - it's dry but very similar
i love it, it's leaner than beef, has a slightly different taste too. i also like bison.
I liked it, but it had a slightly gamey taste to it. I like beef better but it does beat turkey burgers.
I have, its like beef, but better and probably does not have the chemicals that beef has in it.
It's probably mostly psychological but I prefer beef to the bison (american buffalo) that I've had. I've never had (asian/african) buffalo.
I used to go to Catalina Island off of LA quite often, and there was a place on the green pier there called Eric's -- and they sold buffalo burgers. I had one, and it was quite nice.
I haven't had buffalo steak. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2450/...032ae56e7c.jpg |
I think its better. Less fatty...better for you. True that flavor is in the fat, but buffalo meat proves that you don't need much fat for said flavor.
Yeah, I had a burger once, was really good. Just don't see it around much.
Bison is a definite must. No e-coli shit, very, very lean. Doesn't taste gamey at all. Only reason I tried it is because my gal punked my ass and made Taco's with it. Honestly, I ate 3 of them before I found out! Now, I use it to make meatloaf, burgers etc. Much healthier-
:2 cents: -L |
ive had a it a few times. some guy used to raise buffalos near my college and sell the meat out of the laundry mat... thinking about it, doesnt sound like the safest place to buy meat :1orglaugh:1orglaugh
anyway, the hamburger was pretty decent meat and healthier than moo-cow beef in terms of unsaturated fats. however, the steaks were chewy as all hell. i got a london broil from him and the next day i couldnt move my jaw |
I had beefalo way back at a ski slope restaurant. It was interesting, but it's not true buffalo so I guess cant claim to have had it.
I think if the buffalo are allowed to roam and run, then the meat would be chewier for sure since it'll be a working muscle. Anything more free ranging is going to be a bit more work to bite and chew. |

theres a place in Reno that sells it, pretty good, I've had moose burgers too

There is a little town on I-70 between Denver and Vail that serves all kinds of Buffalo.
Buffalo Pizza, Burgers, Hot Dogs etc. I love it. http://www.buffalorestaurant.com/bestwestmenu.php |

Ive been to France and through there a cpl of times. I love the crepes, pancakes & all that but I have not tried Frogs legs. They are suppose to taste like chicken. :2 cents: |
i have it quite a bit...i like it...i like beef also...but with buffalo meat as stated, it is leaner and better for you...
for preparing, a dry rub is nice...you can really season it the way you would a beef steak...ive done something as simple as a little salt & pepper..grill it up and yum... |

Try putting some butter in it with the pepper. Its pretty nice. I suppose if its a little leaner & slightly like game, then maybe the butter is not needed. You never know though, it tastes lovely cooked into the beef. Try it on a corner! :thumbsup |
I like it quite a bit. A bit drier so don't cook it took long.

I ate water buffalo in Thailand 25 years ago. The steaks were the size of a plate and pretty nice from what I can recall.
Has anyone tried eating bull testicles? It's a delicasy. I've never tried it.
I order it whenever I see it on a menu. Very flavorful.
I like bison meat. My family used to have a dozen or so that we pastured with the cattle. Lean meat, very tasty, and supposedly a healthier choice. I love the taste of wild meat though. Grew up eating a huge fucking steak every day, steak is like fucking KD in my books. Could care less most of the time for it anymore...

Why is it that some days, the king posts the most insane shit, but the next, he's no different than every other person here?
I don't get it. I've never eaten buffalo meat, but I hear its supposed to be good!? Deer tastes strange though. |

I like the buffalo burger. lot leaner. less cholesterol.
I have eaten buffalo several times and I actually like it better than beef. One of the local diners have buffalo burgers on their menu and they are very tasty.
Yo, where they sell that shit at?
I like buffalo burgers but not had one in ages :(
I am having home made Bison burger tonight ;)
http://www.lindnerbison.com/ sells at the Santa Monica farmers market, and the cuts are sold the same way as beef.
Bison is leaner than turkey with more iron than red meat per ounce. We have it once or twice a month, and it's great. Since it's so lean, you cannot cook it at high temps - it's dries out - and you should never cook it more than medium rare on a grill. The hump does well if you braise it, again, very low temperatures, like 200 degrees, cook one hour per pound and then let it rest for a bit. I've made pate out of bison liver -- and almost no one at the party realized it was bison liver, go figure -- cooked osso buco, made sliders, grilled strip steaks and made stock from roasted bones. I've got some "oxtails" in the freezer that I'm going to make soup with when I get a chance. |
Buffalo is some of the BEST, but that being said you need a really good cut so do not go to a cheap place for it!!!

It may have been the way it was cooked, but I had a Bison steak and it sucked. It was soo greasy and turned my stomach. It was at Ruth Chris Steak House so I figured they would do it right.
