I have one site that has more than a million

...pages and to finish it will require more than 30,000 pages...but it will take me several years to do those 30,000 plus pages and I am having a difficult time getting motivated to start on them. I can't think of anyway to get around putting in the time to build them...but I am still trying to think of a solution to speed up the process. Motivation can often times be a deal breaker.

Bingo bango. Why does it have more than a million pages?

kane 11-22-2009 02:52 AM

How long did it take you to build the million pages you already have?

Well I started work on it about a year ago...and have worked on it off an on during that period. I get bored working on the same thing all of the time so I will start another project. To build the million plus pages really did not take long because I had various software to assist me. I still have software to assist me but it is a slow process now. These last 30,000 plus will require a lot manually and if I spend every waking moment on them I probably can only knock out around 30 or so per day. I have done four in the last few hours...but could have done more...I am having a difficult time motivating myself...knowing what a long road is ahead. BTW...this is not a site that will make any money to speak of...if any. The only thing I will say about the site is that it is informational.

I am still trying to think of a way to shorten the process before I put much more work into the site.

The site is operational and I could call it complete but the additional pages/information is really going to be the cream.

NetHorse 11-22-2009 03:32 AM

With all the work you already put in it, there's no way someone could duplicate it without directly steal it from you, so if it's online, please tell us where it is.

Anyway, if with one million pages you don't make any money from ads at least, it means its sheer volume doesn't get enough traffic, so you'd better work on that marketing part before putting efforts in the 30,000 missing pages, unless that specialized content is the one that will drive the traffic.

I never reveal my sites...as I have had to learn the hardway that only a fool does so if one does not have the need to do so...and I do not have the need to do so. It is only been online for about a month and the only ads I have on it at this point are Google ads (at some point in time I will put more on). I am not driving any traffic to it at this point but I may spend some time doing that while I work on the additional information pages.

I am retired so I do not rely upon any of my sites for income...if they make some money fine if they don't that is also OK...as I basically build sites to keep myself occupied and kill time.

sexy-frenchie 11-22-2009 04:09 AM

I'm impressed. I could'nt have waited so long to put such a big site online. I need to see that my ideas worth a bit, however small is the public they're targetting. Then I build on top of that, and sometimes the first idea moves towards another path as specific parts of the site get more organic traffic or email concerns.

If it's mainly to occupy yourself, you found a good one. I'd suggest you, if I may, to start working on something else for a while until you get some attention (a visitor contacting you is the best way to focus back on it). Don't get bored on something that could take months to finish if it has an end at all. Your content quality might go down and it would have a negative effect on the rest of it.

RayBonga 11-22-2009 04:11 AM

Hire some grunt to do the work.

Look in some of the webmasters forums a lot of guys from India, etc. will do it on the cheap. (unless what you are doing is so specific that you have to do it yourself).

okny 11-22-2009 04:12 AM

You will have better luck just posting so keep up the good work don't waste you time i already have a site in process with a billion pages.

Sounds like you need some inspiration, try getting some magazines in the genre your site is one and see if it sparks something.

Not to jack your thread...But maybe I'm old school or something, I sort of thought the whole reason for having a website was so that people would you know....GO TO IT.

I have to wonder just what the thought process is that all the people who come on here and "hide" their websites is. Seems pretty contradictory to me. I'm proud of my sites and my work. Nothing to hide, and TRYING to copy me would never net the same results for somebody else.

Is that the thinking? That somebody will steal someone's ideas?

You never see the real successful people hiding anything. It isn't like Ernesto would come on here and try to hide Nasty Dollars, or Patrick would try not to let anybody know about The Hun website. lol

I must be missing something with all these mysterious webmasters who hide everything.

Anyway, good luck with your project...whatever it is. I hope nobody ever sees it. (that is what your hoping for right?)

Nasty Dollars and The Hun need exposure. For example, people doing black hat seo don't really want other webmasters knowing how they make their money.

Everybody needs "exposure"...unless they are cheating like you are pointing out. The whole point of building a website is to get people to come to it..."exposure" as you said.

When one posts on a board...especially a board such as this...one develops a following of sorts...and not always a following of well wishers. From experience...I know that it is not smart to expose...who one is...on a board like this...without a reason to do so...and I do not have a reason to do so...and by exposing ones site/sites one is exposing who one is via whois info. I have posted a site/sites in the past and as a result I have had my server hacked...I have received harassing calls from people on this board and worse than harassing me...they have called and harassed the sick old women (she is dead now) that raised me from the age of 12.

theking 11-23-2009 03:27 AM

You can easily see why I won't open myself up to exposure by seeing who the ignorant shit heads are that are posting in this thread and the same following of ignorant shit heads post in virtually every thread I make and/or every post that I make in anyone else's threads. They are the scum that love to vandalize and harass...as they giggle to themselves like little girls. So no thanks sport...I will keep my sites to myself.

theking 11-23-2009 05:12 AM

Well I am slowly...but surely kocking out pages...baby steps...baby steps.
