The SuicideGirls thread is just one big photographer ethics thread.. so I'm trying this.

Labret, I hear what you're saying and I know goth pretty well. Well enough to shop for it and know if it'll work or not. The market would be more for mainstreamers looking for goth and not so much other goths looking for goth. They mostly consider sites like darkdollars, and even blueblood as posers. Hot Topic is an outrage, along with Manson or anything that attempts to make "goth" something pop culture or mainstream.

But the MARKET for sites like this would mainly be those who aren't goth I think, but goth-curious for lack of a better word. Those who want to live the fantasy of it, not the lifestyle of it.

Caroline would be in heaven. She always wants to go to one we got in Detroit called "City Club". Some oooogly motherfuckers hang out there. I dont wear alot of black so I dont like to go. I imagine, and judging from the pictures, LA goth is probably waaaaay better than Detroit goth. Fat midwest chicks. And in New Orleans, the good goth clubs are so secret you have to be ultra goth to even find one, and hope the door man thinks you look goth enough to let you inside. Doors open at midnight, when all the vampires are up.

There are a few really old goth couples there with old new orleans homes, and at nght instead of the 'true goths' going to the clubs, they gather at these houses (3 story awesome homes with 3 level bars etc so the real goth dont have to mingle with the Hot Topic kids.

They only serve dark beers, there is no corona, rollin rock, its all Charteuse and Dead Guy Ale. Its funny to see all these goth people sipping a Lime Green drink that glows under black light hahahah

Yeah my friend Aaron started a small goth club in Santa Cruz. Not like SF but not bad for the location. SC is never hard up for pretty people who dress fetish/vampire/goth.

OTOH, I live in Boston and have never gone to Manray, even though lot of women that are involved in the local porn scene are there on Saturdays.

Something about naming clubs after people who would never hang out there bothers me. For example, there's a yuppie-ish bar in Boston called Bukowski.

wtf is up with GOTH anyway? Back when I was in High school there was no "clicque goth".... but now every HSer I know talks about em like they're regulars. Oh well.... back in my day there were punk rawkers that used to dress like that..and that was basically it.

Yeah, its pretty intresting, I continually see content being brought in that is supposed to be goth. "She wearing black lipstick, she has black hair, she has a tattoo, etc." The thing is most people confuse goth with walking Hot Topic advertisements.

I agree, goth is difficult. As a program operator, we have to cater a bit to middle America's version of goth, because it sells...and real goth content is harder to find (and shoot).

We've had some really hot "real goth" girls we've approached to model who won't do nudity...and that's what our memebrs really want. While we can get away with having a couple models only dressed in lingerie or scantilly clad, a whole website of nothing but that will lead to member wrath.

It can be a pain in the ass trying to balance both worlds, the "true" goths and the weekend Hot Topic goths. One of these days, we'll have to make an extended trip to NOLA and come back with an assload of more "authentic" goth content. Fletch, you have contacts? ;)

We're also hitting Covnergeance 9 (which is in Vegas this year) and should come back with more models from there.

Bakov had a line on some the goth/fetyish girls where he's at, but at the time we were having the problems with our host.

We realize a lot of the content we have in our sites is "filler" goth, but are slowly working on improving that too.

So, anyone that can supply the content Brujah is looing for...we're looking for it too, let me know ;)

I know plenty of goths 30 plus. Hell 40 plus. You'd be surprised. A person of such extremities finds other means to survive.

As humanity progresses, today's "non-conformists" will eventually become more common.

The internet has made life so much easier for some of us.

Man back when I went more to the clubs and hung out with the crowds the coolest people there were the older ones who'd been through the crap bullshit showoff stuff and had settled into what they felt was most comfortable to them. When I was in my early 20s I respected those people more than anyone else in the scene.

Now I'm 33 and I don't paint my nails anymore, lol (well not too often) but like those older people I used to respect I've now settled into my own comfort level. I just moved back to Orlando from Seattle and I'm hooking up with some old friends from the scene, and they pretty much feel the same.

There's really nothing for you to get. You either do or don't. I wouldn't sweat it.

meh.. you obviously haven't been exposed to the scrawny boy goth and blimpish girlfriend stereotype couple... there are heaps of fat goths.. something like a fat chick becoming goth to become part of a clique. highschool/college has a tendency to do that to people.. go to a cure concert and see :)
although my closer gothy friends are skinny and hot... *shrugs*

If I had more of that content I'd promote it like crazy. I have dark dollars, barely evil/gothic sluts banners and gothwebs content to promote now as well as wasteland content, which is friendly to the subculture. I just wish that the blueblood/gothic sluts peeps had promotional content.

"Goth" is a product of a society that forces both parents to go to work, they become aloof to their children, do not spend time with them, nor pay attention to them.

these children become young adults, and desperately need someone, anyone to notice them.

and yes, most of these otherwise intelligent souls, do end up at Kinko's for life, or in other avocations that do not require direct public contact.

of course they can "pose" and do some modeling, porn or otherwise, but the sad part is that none of them will ever be captains of industry, and most will grow old, embittered, disillusioned, and depressed.

but "goth" is so fun and cute when you're young :)

and the look has a limited commercial value, and it ain't sexy.

I know plenty of goths who are 30-40 and older. They are still around, though some have mellowed. Come to think of it, though, many of them are among the most bizarre people I know. If they hadn't become crazy goths, they would have become crazy hippies or something.

I don't like the idea that goths can't succeed in life. I am well on my way towards a PhD and a career as a professor. What in the world about how someone dresses when they go out could possibly make it impossible for them to be successful in their career?

The sad thing about subcultures (punk, hardcore, goth, black metal, death metal, trad skins, sharp skins, crust, etc) is how they all seem to get overrun by annoying little kids that want to consider themselves part of the incrowd and therefore start saying other people aren't "true" and such. Ofcourse, that quickly drives the more intelligent people away and leaves a bunch of retarded fuckheads that consider themselves "elite".

Funny thing about it is that "choosing" a subculture (shopping for it) or trying hard to fit in achieves only the opposite of what people are looking for. If you care about being true, you ain't.

I agree with Labret on most of the content you see out there, although I gotta admit I sometimes like what I see at gothic clubs. If you see a site which features work like mine, then odds are good their photog or photogs have stood in the same room with me and watched me shoot.

Amelia, just don't click on in then. I've got money to spend, and I did a search on goth content threads. I saw two possibilities here and replied to them to follow up.

Gothics. When they're not getting their asses kicked, they're busy getting drunk and having sex with dead animals.

They give me diarrhea. What the hell's wrong with them? They always look pale, weak and sickly. Nothing a reality check can't fix. But no, they choose to dress up like french poets and walk around like vampires. Why don't you losers get a life and quit pretending like you're depressed? Maybe then people will stop treating you like the dipshits that you are, and you'll gain some respect. You know, I've done my homework. I've probably checked out over 50 pages by people who consider themselves "gothic." I've read over 20 definitions, and none of them were consistent. They're quick to label themselves as gothics, but they can't even pick a definition and stick with it. Instead, they allow people like myself to stereotype them by aesthetics. The bottom line is, that there probably isn't a universally accepted definition of a gothic because the entire movement or lifestyle (or lack thereof) revolves around just that: aesthetics. Sounds trivial and unimportant to me.

Don't get me wrong here, I have nothing against depressed people. As I come to understand it, most gothics aren't even depressed. They just act that way because they're cowards. Cowards afraid of dying. I almost laughed out loud when I first read this. Afraid of dying? Why is this even an issue? Well tough shit. If they're so afraid of dying, then they shouldn't have been born. Not my loss.

They're so afraid of death and dying, yet they smoke, drink and have unprotected sex. I know not all gothics are like that, but I don't give a shit about being politically correct.

I propose that we build a giant cannon, gather up all the gothics, pack them into the cannon, and launch them into a brick wall. SLAM. No more gothics. Maybe then they'd have a reason to be depressed. That is, if any of them lived. They're all so pale and weak that a mere launch into a brick wall might finish them off.

I was going to talk about this girl I went to high school with that was a shit-eating gothic, but I'm too tired. Just take my word for it, she was shitty.
