Italian Car track Day at Daytona and I've got pics

This weekend was the Italian Car Track Day at Daytona International Speedway.

They rent the track and then you pay to drive your car on the same course they use for the Rolex 24 hour endurance race
which includes the high banked turns. You are put in one of three groups based on experience and then you get several sessions
on the track throughout the day. It said it was for Italian cars but there were other cars there as well.
The weather was perfect and I spent the whole day roaming the track with my camera :)

I spent a lot of time near the track entrance and it was fun to see what came driving in next.

The entrance is a tunnel that goes under the track and as they drove in the engine sounds were magnified X 10

How cool would it be to be able to take your car out on the track at Daytona and let it do what it was built for.

You better be able to handle the consequences if you run out of talent before your car does

There were a few Bentleys and they seemed to be right at home with all the Ferrari and Lamborghinis.

Imagine hitting the high banked turns as fast as your car can go. This guy didn't have to because he was there.

This man traveled from Saudi Arabia to drive his Bugatti Veyron on the track. He had an instructor in the passenger seat
and still managed to spin it out in one of the tight turns but by the end of the day he was up to speed with the rest of them

Legendary Italian car test driver Valentino Balboni was giving rides all day long in this beautiful Lamborghini and
gave every passenger their money's worth as he pushed the car to the limit often bringing the back end around for a little slide action

I can't think of a better way to experience your exotic than a track day at daytona :thumbsup

Awesome pictures. What is the black car in the last shot?

Minte 11-15-2009 02:25 PM

Great shots! Did you record any video at the tunnel? Hard to beat the sound of a V12 going through one.

I think it's a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.

Same as the car in the 3rd pic just all blacked out.

Very nice. I'll bet the tunnel noise was impressive ..... Aren't Bentleys made in England?

No, there was a bit of a wait for cars to come through. 10 or 15 minutes and as bad as I wanted to I couldn't give up the track time to wait and catch the sound on video. The few I saw sounded unreal and everyone revved their engine as they drove through :)

I did take some video of the track action along with pictures. My plan was to hang out at the tunnel and get some video as the cars left at the end of the day but I was burnt from such a long day and left.

I heard it, I just didn't get it to share it :upsidedow

They pretty much let any make car in that met their requirements for being on the track.
Each car had to pass an inspection and I saw other makes like Porsches, Vipers, Corvettes, Spykers, a FORD GT40 and a Mustang.

Not this time :(

I have rode around the tri oval part of the track in a stock car at 170 mph so I kind of know what
the experience is like but I'm sure going through the road course at those speeds would be even more thrilling.

Rides were available so maybe next year :thumbsup

Few more pics from a great event

The two silver things sticking up behind the driver and passenger protects them in case of a rollover.
In " race mode " they automatically come up and in regular driving they are recessed but come out like air bags when in an accident.
These guys almost needed them as they spun off track doing a 720 stopping just before the concrete barrier.

Props to a guy that takes out his rare, million dollar Enzo Ferrari and runs it hard on the track :thumbsup

http://www.julie-clarke.com/public_h...kDay/Enzo4.jpg

You could get ten of these for the pice of the Enzo but I bet he had just as much fun

After seeing these cars parked at shows it was a real eye opener to see them in all their glory on the track

for you florida gfyers check out chinmotorsports.com if you want to abuse your car on the track for the weekend, its usually only about 250 for the day and we go to sebring, homestead miami, and occasionally daytona and some out of state tracks. you don't need an exotic car either, i usually roll there with my miata
