This scares the grammar nazi in me

It's bad enough some people do it, but a fucking trending topic on a social media network with 20+ million members? What the fuck is this world coming to?

It's an age thing I think. Kids don't care. Young adults don't care. When you're a little older you realize how stupid those mistakes make you look.

Need a lesson? Okay, "wtf" is an ACRONYM for "what the fuck". Acronyms are fine and expected on the internet, especially at places like Twitter. However, last I checked, "your" is not the same as "you are" or "you're". Don't tell me you're someone that also constantly puts "your" where "you're" should be. :helpme

YOUR thread is true... :thumbsup

You're/Your is so common it's meh.

It really does matter. I remember a kid at my last job who grew up in the spellcheck generation. On the days he worked from home, his email came from some web-based mail that didn't have a spell check at the time.

We would all have a laugh reading this retard's email. He tried so hard to look smart, but made the most heinous spelling errors known to man. A mistype every once in a while is no big deal, but when you spell uncle as "unkel" and ultimate as "ultamit", you just look stupid.

That and loose instead of lose, drive me nuts. For a while we had alienq and sleazy not posting and it was so peaceful out on grammar patrol.

I've made money on the bad spelling of people on "ultimate". At one point UltimateBet started doing TV advertising using the URL UltimateBet.tv. I found out about it relatively early and went typo hunting, and next thing I know I was making $40/day in parking revenue because people suck at spelling ultimate. Ultamite, ultimat, ultamit, ultimet, ultimete, ultamet...the list goes on.

Your thread is true. It does make people look bad though. Today people are in the process of making another abbreviated form of communication. It is not uncommon in history. We have people making sentences into 3 letters. Plus they know what you mean. Well many of them may know understand the difference. I was meaning that readers know what you people mean when they type it that way.

I also am not sure if an apostrophe is even allowed in that list of rooms or whatever it is. It also could have a character limit that they hit. Personally I hate when I have to purposely misspell a word due to a character limit in a SMS message for example. Often I will rewrite the lines over and over again until it means what I want and has not spelling mistakes.
