I did a fresh install of Windows Vista Ultimate
...a few days ago. Since then my DVD drive does not read a disk. It keeps telling me to insert disk...and in management it tells me no media. I have tried everything I know to do...so I need some fresh ideas. Don't tell me google is my friend as I have tried everything that I came across.
I need input. |

Computer geeks...input please.

By fresh install...I mean a clean install.
|
turn off pc, unplug the power and data cables (from each end) and plug them back in.
see if that helps. |
Correct drivers?
|
just put windows 7 on it and enjoy life.

I had this problem when we built my new box and put windows vista ultimate on it. It just wouldn't find the DVD drive no matter what I did. Eventually I grabbed an old drive I had laying around and that one worked fine. I went to the store and bought a new DVD drive and it worked fine. The one vista couldn't see got put in a box with xp on it and it works perfectly.
I wonder if you might be having the same issue. I think there are just some DVD drives out there that vista doesn't like. |
i hate windows vista :9

Vista sucks :)

I did a Windows 7 upgrade on my laptop yesterday. It was a free upgrade offer they were doing when I bought it a couple of months back with Vista preloaded on it.
Anyhoo it's utter crap. Don't even think about buying it. Feels like a con actually if you already have Vista. They make a lot of song and dance about the new style taskbar but the reality is that it's crap to use. Vista felt a lot better and thats crap too LOL |

Die please. You are a waste of toilet paper. |
Did you check your device manager to see if the drive is working properly?
You can also update drivers from there, or uninstall the drive, then restart your pc to see if it will set it up via plug and play. |
