I HATE to say it... But looks like IE is better than FF & Safari =(

I love FF (except for this most recent release) but damn, these reports are rough. :Oh crap

http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=8489

Among Web browsers, Mozilla Firefox had the largest percentage of Web vulnerabilities, followed by Apple Safari, whose browser showed a vast increase in exploits, due to vulnerabilities reported in the Safari iPhone browser:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/inde...id=113336&pn=2

By and large, we found that Internet Explorer 8 performed well, and beat Firefox 3.0.7 in the majority of our time trials.

However, IE 8's performance advantage is relatively negligible. In most of our testing, IE 8's advantage was half a second or less. One notable exception, however, was in loading the English-language Wikipedia home page, where IE 8 beat out Firefox by an average of one second (IE 8 took about 2.2 seconds to load the page on average, while Firefox 3 took about 3.3 seconds). Also of note: on average, IE 8 loaded Apple's home page nearly twice as quickly as Firefox.

i ditched firefox after the last update runs terrible for me for some reason.

CYF 11-12-2009 07:39 PM

The "study" was conducted by methodology unknown, includes no references to raw data and goes completely against publicly available data.

The company that did this study is also a Microsoft Certified Partner :2 cents:

It appears to be based on number of patches. Firefox patches a lot of small bugs. Microsoft releases one huge patch that fixes tons of bugs. If you go by that methodology, IE6 is the MOST secure since they don't patch it anymore. :1orglaugh

Anyone use chrome? It seems fastest for sites like gfy that are mostly code and text.

I rolled back to a previous version, but at this rate. Simply going to have to dump it myself. I.E. on my other machine simply is working better and not crashing out like FF.

:disgust

their strength used to be in the plugins, but lately they have been unreliable

This is true. It seems very slow now also!?

sandman! 11-12-2009 08:29 PM

lolz......

sysk 11-12-2009 08:31 PM

I dislike IE because it doesn't give a damn about W3C standards. I don't care for the rest

tranza 11-13-2009 10:02 AM

I cant agree with that..

Supz 11-13-2009 11:00 AM

Chrome is where it is at.

potter 11-13-2009 11:09 AM

Ok, I'll bite.

Since that report says Internet Explorer is better than both Firefox and Safari. Can you please link me to the Linux and OSX download for Internet Explorer 8? I believe those reports and would love to make the switch.

;)

Iron Fist 11-13-2009 11:12 AM

The general public doesn't buy it... just ask ANYONE who ever had spyware on their system from using Internet Explorer.

IE's own standards have always been better than W3C's. Every single step of the way MS has had the better way of doing things.

W3C, like many organizations, exists only to take donations and make itself bigger.

i do notice if i keep my smart thumbs admin open all the time it eats up memory in the ff browser. i simply close ff and restart it. problem solved. a browser is a browser . firefox has cool adons.

The next thing you have to look at is how these browsers will run in windows 7 if you decide to upgrade or do a new install. I feel their are a bunch of factors involved.

That report dosent tell you if it had ie open at the same time as ff or which page the tested on first. if the computer has cleaned out or what not and if anything had cookies stored in it. a page will always load faster if it is stored in the temp files. Its not like i have never had any browser crash on me. they all do.

_Richard_ 11-13-2009 11:58 AM

hmm FF has been crashing a lot for me

blogman9 11-13-2009 03:20 PM

FF doesn't works greate on linux, but works.

Love the Chrome, don't use any other browsers ever, unless for testing

Vjo 11-13-2009 03:51 PM

After all the ballyhoo I expected more options. Chrome has hardly any. Neither has a simple "right click to save to desktop" I suppose I could install a bucnh of add ons or updates but the lack of options makes me think IE aint so bad.

Chrome runs nice but needs more options. I could not get a decent font/picture ratio with firefox. Plus old add ons like Roboform no longer work.

Sorry they seem way inferior to IE overall except perhaps in security. And I never thought I would be on MS side ever. :)

Horny Joe 11-13-2009 05:26 PM

Maybe time to give Opera a real go... ? Like Opera a lot, but I have gotten used to FF.... Chrome... yeah, ok.

Vjo 11-13-2009 05:51 PM

Firefox is nice and I prob need to mess around a bit. I am impressed with FF's interface and abilities with plug ins I heard good stuff about.

I will def try Opera. I know there are like 20 or more browsers out there. Somewhere I seen or someone posted a good comparison chart. Think it was from this board.

Plus what wm wants to give up their right click context menu they prob have now..

PizzaDelivery 11-13-2009 09:01 PM

Mozilla Firefox rules :)

I want some of what you're huffing.
Must be good shit to make a post like that.

Darrah 11-13-2009 09:29 PM

Is this why FF is very slow for me now?

What's the big deal about Chrome though? I heard it's very stripped and simple compared to all the bells and whistles other browsers have. Is it because it's new and no one cares yet to go after Chrome yet and attack them? I also hear how people use Chrome for some sites while FF for others. Which sites are more suited for Chrome than FF? I've always used FF because of all the problems I had with IE since FF first came out.

Only reason I use firefox anymore is for one of my hosts control panels works best in FF. I use it for testing, and few tasks that only work with FF. Rest of the time I am 100% chrome. It just works. :winkwink:

lol It's true.

MS is to the W3C what the United States is to the UN. They play along, but it's all for show.

Will Chrome import my thousands of bookmarks and into its each specific folder? My bookmarks into IE gets scattered out of their folders and in alphabetical order!

digifan 11-14-2009 04:53 AM

With FF3.5.6 or the FF3.6 beta2 out they should use that to compare.
