All WORDPRESS blog owners check your privacy settings

So I was checking some settings on my blogs today (wordpress 2.8.4+) and found out that in the SETTINGS -> PRIVACY the default is set to:

"I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors"

WTF? I'm pretty sure this blocks google and other spiders to index my blog. (no traffic from search engines)

:Oh crap

nickutis 11-08-2009 03:42 AM

yeah.. for some strange reason they put this by default on versions 2.8+

Jdoughs 11-08-2009 03:43 AM

Pre-checked the fuckers. Below the fold too.

Yeah, and I was wondering why one of my blogs didn't get any love from google.

btw. Now I'm checking some order blogs (with 2.8+ installations) and the settings seem fine. Weird weird ..:upsidedow

I do most of the installs via cpanel (fantastico). But yeah, I remember they do that if you do a normal install

Someone is going to use that line in a testimonial about their SEO skills for sure.

brassmonkey 11-08-2009 08:08 AM

Yes it does.

fatfoo 11-08-2009 12:44 PM

Yeah, you need traffic from search engines. Make sure you don't block that.

Brujah 11-08-2009 01:49 PM

what are search engines?

alias 11-08-2009 01:49 PM

Oh fuck, thanks. Just set up 30 domains and forgot about this!

alias 11-08-2009 01:55 PM

Looks like they fixed this in 2.85, asks during install according to the person who installed them.

M0nk 11-08-2009 03:42 PM

you should check that one as soon as you make your site!

TeenSluts 11-08-2009 03:43 PM

just found this shit out yesterday.. glad I did!

Phallus Fondue 11-08-2009 05:01 PM

Damn you and damn them for fixing this.

Next time when you find a simple check box that eliminates a huge chunk of your competitors from the best traffic available, do not fucking mention it.
