I know this isn't the first time it was posted here, but I love reading the updates on this photographer's anti-file sharing activities. He's naming names, suing people, forcing big money settlements, even going after people in other countries. I have never even heard of this guy and his sites prior to his taking on the people sharing his content, yet somehow he has the means, money and knowledge to turn this into a profitable undertaking. I don't know how successful he is, but there are much, much bigger programs that could easily use at least some of these tactics for themselves. Check out the new updates at http://www.wp-board.com/

That's Jimmy Stephans... also the hero of underage models (and I don't mean that in a bad way)

About 5 years ago (lifetime in internet years) he was arrested for his popular website which featured scantily clad bikini/underwear underage teen models... Before his arrest I believe he posted here, or at least on other webmaster forums... after his arrest.... banned/outcasted on all of them, except his own.

He was proven innocent on all accounts, has been featured in the media/etc, and continues to make a lot of money from those types of sites.

Personally, I don't have a problem with this, but I'm interested to hear other people's opinions of how much of a 'hero' he is given the nature of what he's hero'ing people from file sharing.

He posted here on GFY a couple of months ago or so. I don't know about his other sites other than what are linked from the WP-Board. But it's fascinating to see someone who probably doesn't have unlimited funding to be so successful enforcing his copyrights.

That's what I thought too. I knew there was some kind of history with the underage market and last I heard I thought he had done time for it.

I knew it was possible for some time. Problem is VERY few actually get a copyright on their content. Guessing the idea of sending in copies of your work to get filed with the government is to "scary" to them, or they are just cheap and lazy.

Several years ago Perfect 10 made this a business model. Really surprised that more people did not latch onto the concept since so many do like to copy others.

I personally enforce my own content, haven't found any I can sue yet for damages. Perhaps I do not understand DMCA versus copyright suits enough and that is why. I know when I spoke with an attorney recently they told me to add in trademarks to the whole package. Either way I need to get some more legal advice to see if I can sue even if they comply with DMCA.

The type of content he has might be helpful in his suits as few people would want others to know they were looking at that.

How long before some sharp guy who knows how to do all of this buys a photographers rights to copyright and sues the crap out of some big tubes? if the content was of an undesirable nature and it was in the premium area you could use his same tactic. bi-curious or tranny stuff would be uncomfortable for lots of guys.

one thing missing from all his stories is how much cash he is doling out to numerous attornies, in more than one country, to do this. My feeling is he not making a dime from the settlements once his costs are paid.
