AVG or Avast. which is the better Antivirus

Well??

Who has used them and what do you think?

nickutis 11-03-2009 06:51 AM

after few years with AVG, now i choose Avast. IMHO better

CaroMark 11-03-2009 07:12 AM

AVG has been doing a great job for me and I know of quite a few techs and system administrators who use it!

CIVMatt 11-03-2009 07:25 AM

#1 NOD32 and #2 AVG

Only ones I'll use

Wizzo 11-03-2009 07:29 AM

I've used Avast for years and been Virus free... :pimp

pornguy 11-03-2009 07:29 AM

I have avast now and had a virus issue on my server.. Techs told me that avast was listing things in the logs that were not even there. they listed it because it was expected to be there.. Told me to use avg..

So thats the way Im leaning.

Matt. I tried Nod32 and did not like it. For some reason.

dav3 11-03-2009 07:30 AM

definitely not avg.

never tried avast.

avira works well tho.

pornguy 11-03-2009 07:30 AM

Thanks for the input Jimmy.

katharos 11-03-2009 07:56 AM

nod32 is here ... anyway guys you know that the best antiviruses, nod32, avg and avast, are czech republic products :winkwink:

pornguy 11-03-2009 08:17 AM

Anyone else with input?

I prefer Avast, the only antivir software which found a bad memory virus I had (tried norton, kaspersky, AVG and Antivir). Never tried Trend PC Chillin, maybe it is good too - don't know.

Vick! 11-03-2009 09:31 AM

May be you just need opinion among these two, but you should consider kaspersky too ... i have been looking for antivirus as well for long, but after kaspersky .. i no longer worry about which antivirus is best.

tranza 11-03-2009 09:40 AM

I prefer avast!

Adzvertise 11-03-2009 09:48 AM

Avira
Superantispyware
Malwarebytes

Way3 11-03-2009 09:51 AM

Been using AVG for a while now with no problems!

Ginn 11-03-2009 10:05 AM

I also use avast. Though from time to time just in case i run RemoveIt Pro.

PC Chillin is crap IMO. i had it on my old sony and when the subscription ran out, I went with AVG and found a number of things that PC Chillin didnt pick up.

Im about to make the switch to Avast within the next week or so, the free year of norton is about to expire

Just Mike 11-03-2009 10:41 AM

avast all the way

Sosa 11-03-2009 10:43 AM

I prefer AVG

Horny Dude 11-03-2009 11:21 AM

Best AV in the game is Kaspersky hands down.

Nein. Avira has proven to beat Kaspersky. Kasp does report less false positives however.
In anycase, Kaspersky is still a very good AV.

I run a large network with 50 PC's and I used to swear by AVG till I started getting alot of wierd activity saturating the CPU cycles on my routers. I had to reset them every 2 hours. Then I formatted all the PC's on the lan and it became more of a weekly problem. AVG never gave me any kind of alarm about viruses. I installed Avast on a couple PC's and alarms went off immediately.

I ditched AVG and switched to Avast and the problem pretty much went away.

PantiesDropped 11-03-2009 11:48 AM

Avast! have had it for two years.

Va2k 11-03-2009 11:50 AM

Avast has been great use to use avg that shit bogged down the CPU like a bitch!
