Yes, Paranormal Activity sucks
From the stories of people I thought it was any good, but not I realized and confirmed my first belief that it was lame....
Pretty good for 11k production.... |
I read the other night that it is the most profitable movie ever.
|
It grossed around 70mil so far... So when you calculate the ROI, you get a big number :) So it probably is...
|
one of the best scary movies :thumbsup alongside the ring
|
I just saw a news story about it, $15k to make the movie, done in less than a week with no script and its taken over $80MM in the box office after 1MM people voted online for Paramount to take it from limited screenings to nationwide. Wow.

There is a whole new breed of film makers that can really thank Kevin Smith for breaking that barrier. Hollywood is really paying attention to the indies out there with a camera and a story. They do not understand the concept of huge budgets, and huge to them is in the thousands not the hundreds of thousands or millions. Pretty sure you could hand someone like Smith or any of these new people 500 million and a contract, they would send you film after film that makes money several times a year and it would barely touch the damn interest. They only spend the money if you force them. |
Is it better or worse than Blair Witch Project? Not that BWP was any good, I'm just asking.

yep, the ring is the real deal... one of my favorite movies ;)
|
After watching this movie watch the official trailer you will notice it contains just about every action scene from the entire movie.. what you don't see in the trailer is the time passing and clock changing that is about it I swear!
|
I didn't even know that movie was made before now
|
Maybe you don`t like this types of movies for me this is pretty good one 9 from 1-10
|
hm, nice trailer :)
|
Thanks for the heads up...
|
That move looks like a ten year old kid made it. it sucked.
What the fuck, can't anyone hold a camera steady? Made me sick looking a that crap. |
Peeps talking about the ring, I hope you are refering to the jap one and not the shitty remake.
The japs know how to make a scary movie :thumbsup |
What's that video of the kids that got 1 treat and were rewarded with another one in like 10 minutes if they sat there and didn't eat it? Anyways, basically if you're the type of impatient person to just gobble the treat and take off then yeah you probably won't like this movie, otherwise you might enjoy it a lot.
|
I as well thought the movie was pretty stupid.
I really wanted to be scared too.. for some reason horror flicks just don't do it for me. Not even trying to be a badass, as I would looove to be genuinely scared by a film. Is it my mind set that ruins horror movies for me? Maybe its the atmosphere of the movie theater that kills horror movies for me. |
yeah they even took elements from blair witch... the girl cops an attitude at one point, starts crying another time, same routine..
not a bad flick overall once you realize its gonna be a steady cam situation most of the time.. but the ROI is incredible.. was expecting to see someone do this after the success of the blair witch... Cloverfield tried but their budget was too big. |

What a way to waste that fucking movie. How can you enjoy something if you can't see what the fucks happening and feel like shit watching it ? You can't... |
i thought it was great. didnt like the ending though, that kind of ruined the whole deal. downloaded the original movie with the original ending, it sounds better..havent watched it yet

this is why i feel no shame when it comes to watching bootlegged movies. |
I have my doubts that it only cost $15,000.
- the guy renovated his house for the movie - the camera he used is listed for $15,000 alone - even if he got a used camera, it does not include equipment - licenses for video editing software - don't forget the actors |
Quote:
same thing goes with the actors, if its not a SAG movie, they don't have to pay normal acting rates to anyone so once again ppl can donate their time. people will act just for the credit and a free meal. |

Anyways they used places like facebook and stuff to ask for help. Told people that they need shit like effects and stuff but to bring your own equipment. They didnt pay any actors and again used who could show up for free. The budget was spent on a crowbar, some tapes, and coffee and tea (basic type not Starbucks). The movie did get crazy attention at Cannes. |

Agreed. |
go see 'men that stare at goats'

i thought i was the only one that realized that this movie was sht!
|
I love Paranormal Activity in Real Life, Psychic Abilities and Mind Reading.
|
Props to them for making a killing. Spielberg made mad coin investing in this.
That being said, the movie sucked. For all of you San Diegans, this was filmed in PQ. If this was mentioned already, sorry. |
Its not as great as everyone says, BUT....
The movie 100% reliant on you focusing your attention and on it, because it does have an eerie tone that could be lost on the viewers with short attention spans. I was creeped out for a couple of days after seeing it. Not talking about the OP, but watching on your computer monitor will not have the same effect as seeing in theater. |
First of all I don't see why people would want to goto a scary movie about ghosts when its captured all with cameras which people can edit obviously it would be different if you got the real experience I rather keep my 7bux and watch ghost hunters on FX
|
Paranormal Activity certainly had a genius astroturf faux viral campaign, so props to them on the margin, but I personally skip all of that sort of stuff for my own entertainment.
|
BlairWitch Project gave me a headache...
|
I want my 2 hours back for wasting it on this film...Thank god I didn't pay for that bullshit either or I would have walked out and asked for a refund. This movie royally SUCKED ASS!

I have yet to see the movie but I still heard it was good.
|
The part in the trailer where something(looks like a body) flys at the camera does not happen in the movie...

Also, when you pay for a movie ticket, you're taking a gamble on the finished product. It's easy enough for anyone to find out if its their kind of movie, with all of the media and reviews available these days. Put money in the pockets of the filmmakers, whether you like an individual movie or not. I'm sure you probably see a movie you like once in a while. |
The movie rocks. Finally a good horror movie not like the retarded ones with heads beeing cut off, lots of blood and quiet dialogues, just so they can stress people with loud sound effects.

**SPOILERS*** Ending you saw was the one that was screened in the festivals, with cops arriving, right? The theatrical ending ended with her killing the bf on cam and then jumping at the cam looking possessed. There's a third ending which has only been screened once where she kills the bf off cam, walks back upstairs and slits her throat on cam. |
Whats good about this movie is watching it and thinking:
"I bet I could come up with 11k, get my semi-attractive girlfriend to act with me in it and make 70 million dollars" When you think about the alternative being an amateur porn tape that maybe you could get 200 for, its a nice thought. |
I've heard it is very scarying!
