Climate chief Lord Stern: give up meat to save the planet

Be prepared as your overlords have decided for you that you need to stop eating meat in order to combat the oncoming catastrophe of "global warming". Get ready for higher prices, new taxes and more bureaucrats telling you how to live in the very near future. It is a brave new world. :upsidedow

Climate chief Lord Stern: give up meat to save the planet

People will need to turn vegetarian if the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming.

In an interview with The Times, Lord Stern of Brentford said: ?Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world?s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.?

Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas.

Lord Stern, the author of the influential 2006 Stern Review on the cost of tackling global warming, said that a successful deal at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December would lead to soaring costs for meat and other foods that generate large quantities of greenhouse gases.

All ya gotta do is buy as local as you can. So if you have a local butcher, you are not going to go meatless any time soon as long as local farmers bring in the herd.

It's doing things like buying steak from NY when you live in California or overseas that is a problem really. The shipping and trucking burns the fuel, and if it's air shipped.. forget it! A ten hour flight burns about 36,000 gallons of jet fuel.

not that i agree 100% with that article, but i really wonder if you have any positive suggestion to anything or if you just enjoy making fun of those who actually try to care about what happens to this planet.

I realize because your are functionally illiterate that you are likely unaware that "Brave New World" refers to a book (people used to read them before there was an internet) about a utopian future. My point was that much of the rhetoric being used used by the green left about global regulations and population control bears some resemblance to the book. Nothing very conspiratorial about it.

But then again you were not really trying to make any point at all were you....... rather you were just spewing out insults because your positions are both indefensible and illogical. :winkwink:

The Problem is also that 1000 Kalories from Meat require ~4 times as much Water and produce more Greenhouse Gases that 1000 Kalories from i.e. Wheat.

And we not only have a climate change problem, we also have a problem with diminishing water resources
