Can I use the words "pornhub" in my domain name?

I am thinking about registering a new domain name with the words "pornhub" in it.

Does he have a trademark on those words?

I see all kinds of domains using those words and they are not owned by pornhub.

Agent 488 10-27-2009 12:27 AM

sure will be no problem go right ahead.

Do I detect sarcasm? :1orglaugh

mobilepornhub.com
freepornhub.com
pornhubmobile.com

Those are all doing just fine and they are not owned by the original owner.

Agent 488 10-27-2009 12:37 AM

do you really want to spend time developing something that can be taken away? find something else. if you are really hung up on the name do some on and offsite seo to grab some of the traffic for that word.

Intrinsic 10-27-2009 12:38 AM

Yes I'm sure pornhub will go after you
They are probably licensed in and pay taxes and have servers within the USA

UniqueMovies 10-27-2009 12:41 AM

Can somebody actually trademark the words "porn hub" ?

I think when it comes to .com's, the U.S. courts have the power

l0lf4c3 10-27-2009 01:32 AM

for .commercials ? why that ? .us would be okay... but a worldwide tld ?

nextri 10-27-2009 01:42 AM

Pornhub is a not a registered trademark as of yet. But they can probably overtake your domain, regardless of where you are located, by going through wipo.int and make a domainname dispute.

fatfoo 10-27-2009 02:20 AM

I think there should be no problem. Pornhub has been noting for using other's content without permission itself, hasn't it.

SleazyDream 10-27-2009 02:23 AM

only if a surfer uploads it to your site LOL

Your getting copyright mixed up with trademark. Two different things.

I always figure if I have to think twice about it then perhaps it isn't worth the stress.

Ask them about that, ou, they will let you use it, right?

Peace 10-27-2009 08:25 AM

Porn and Hub are too generic words. So they can not be copyrighted i think.

Voltar used to (and maybe still does) teach newbies how to make porn hub pages. I recall him being quite protective of the term "hub" in reference to the interlinking style actually.

trivia for 2c

How can they do it? How much will it cost them in court fees to win?

hdkiller 02-26-2010 10:36 AM

Sorry you are incorrect

ColetteX 02-26-2010 11:12 AM

so how is your pornhub domain doing?

GTS Mark 02-26-2010 11:31 AM

Here is what is going to happen (trust me). You will buy the domain and then put some tube script up and then start buying traffic to feed it. Once you get on Pornhub's radar they will come calling and take the domain from you (and quite honestly i feel they should). Back in the old days the Hun used to offer $100 to anyone that bought a domain for adult with the likeliness "hun" in it. If you didn't sell it then you would most likely pay the price later LOL!

Anyways it's not worth the effort and bullshit. Just register another domain and build it up, that way you won't run into issues later on.

Just my 2 cents obv. :)

The HQredtude dude lived in Estonia, so clearly where you live might not matter.

ColetteX 02-26-2010 01:53 PM

Allison 02-26-2010 02:14 PM

Search for the trademark here

It's called UDRP. It costs roughly $1250 if I remember right, so it's a lot less than a lawsuit.
