Why are most IMAGE CAPTCHAS so HARD TO READ?

From social bookmarking, to social communities, to submission sites, to forum etc etc...

Why they do it SO HARD TO READ??? Those images are almost impossible to read for a normal eye.

"To fight Spam" is not an excuse in this case.. Because the intention is make those captchas readable for HUMANS... And they fail miserably to do so.

I was thinking the same....they seem to get more complex as time goes on.

Dunno about protecting from bots etc but soon humans will fail the test lol.

I like the ones that are Captcha symbols... like a mouse with a dog on it's head. That shit would be impossible for a machine to read.

Captcha is funny, difficult for people to read but somehow it is easy for spammers to circumvent.

What's really sad is programmers should be able to comprehend that computers can READ a graphic. When you consider their only parameters are twenty six different letters, and ten different numbers. It will ALWAYS be possible to write a program to read the captcha, no matter how complex the lettering and numbering is. I mean, hello - common sense here.

It makes you wonder how people writing letter/numerical captchas are still employed.

CAPTCHA is generally becoming harder to read as OCR becomes more advanced. At some point OCR is going to be able to read warped letters better than a human can... time for something new...

About 200 million CAPTCHAs are solved by humans around the world every day. In each case, roughly ten seconds of human time are being spent. Individually, that's not a lot of time, but in aggregate these little puzzles consume more than 150,000 hours of work each day. What if we could make positive use of this human effort? reCAPTCHA does exactly that by channeling the effort spent solving CAPTCHAs online into "reading" books.

History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.
